While this place has very much changed since it donned the ‘Charcoal Chicken’ name, it still serves great food. The store presentation is fantastic, incomparable to the old, dirty, tacky look it once had. For neighbourhood takeaway store it is very lovely. Now to the food, my favourite, and the one I get most often is the beef schnitzel pack /w chips. It has always been nice, they rarely skimp on the size of the schnitzel and is always overloaded with chips. Which must I say, are very nice, probably the best in the area. Standalone chips come in 3 sizes small, medium, and large. While they don’t come in wrapped up paper, I find the serving sizes very reasonable, there is much more in a large chip box than you’d expect. I haven’t had much of an issue with their service, they get to you as quick as they can, but there can be a little wait on a Friday night, as can be expected from most takeaway stores. Phone ordering is quick and easy, and wait time they give is never longer 15 minutes, often under 10. I can’t help but recommend this store, they have a great, clean look and the food is just as fantastic. The pricing is on the higher side, which may be an issue for some, however I think it is worth it for a local store of this quality.

We approached this store quite recently and found it quite satisfying, we ordered an amount that fitted our budget but what we got was a whole hearted warmth of great customer service, meal satisfaction and a huge discount on other variety of meals. I would definitely recommend this place if you are just wanting chicken with chips, but if you would like to make this a meal worth while, then it’s best to enquire within.

Long gone are the comfortable, plain surroundings of your fair dinkum chicken store and in there place are shiny edges and crisp counter tops. Many may think this an improvement but for someone who has been hunkering down to a combo yiros or ¼ chicken and chips for years these changes have not been easy to accept. I am all for change where is needed but in this case change meant increases in prices and decreases in customers. It has picked up since it reopened but the charm of your local chip shop has not. The food is still good but with another local chicken shopping having recently opened its doors an alternative option has now established its self in the stomachs of Hub people from Aberfoyle. They’ll give you everything you want, including a steak sandwich(this favourite was initially left missing from the new menu and has since been repositioned on the culinary options) but with automation that the place now seems to have I can no longer speak favourably like I once could have. Shame for those who missed out when it was Charcoal Chicken but for those new to the area give it a try and find out for yourself. It has chicken, chips, dogs and fish. You won’t find all the salads they once had but your potato salads, bean salads and curried rice salads do still remain, though they just don’t seem to have the old taste.
