Pick the soup, with bbq pork, hokkien noodles and extra of the red and green sauce they give you! If you are cold, sad, sick, hungry, cold, hot, sad, sick, happy, whatever Ricky will make you so damn happy!!! Downfall he is slow but trust me it is worth it every single time. If I could have this weekly I would but my office is too far away now. So it’s now special occasions of an extra long lunch break. Who knows what the green sauce is(I think it’s avo and spring onion blended) but heck it is so delicious mixed with the chilli sauce stuff they give you which is so spicy and real. Take away, eat in, whatever just do it!!!

Ohhh yes! Cheap tasty eats! Ricky’s Chicken Rice started just outside the Central Markets. Famous for the dish in it’s name, he has opened another store more centrally located in the Southern Cross Arcade. I have been meaning to try it for a while. Some of my fellow Elites rate it pretty high, so I had to give it a go. I ordered the roast duck on noodles with sauce. Usually I would order rice, but for some reason I was in the mood for noodles. I also ordered a chicken broth for a side. This was so super cheap at $ 10.50. The duck was really tender. Actually, it was a lot more tender than other duck I have tried around Adelaide. But this also meant that the skin on the duck as not as crispy as I would have liked it. Oh well, the flavour made up for that. Well seasoned and topped with a soy based sauce for the noodles. To freshen the dish, it was also served with steamed bok choy. What I also liked was the additional sauces served with the dish, one was green onion sauce and the other a chilli sauce. Perfect for dipping your duck into for extra flavour. Yes, the reviews are right! This is a great destination for an all time favourite. I will be returning here on a regular basis when I am in town. Especially at those prices!

As with a lot of Asian food gems, don’t be fooled by the front of this place. This place has possibly the best Asian soups in the CBD. The clear duck, or the clear chicken, broth soups are amazing and reasonably priced. Be warned though — if you go at lunch time expect a long wait. Its very popular.

RIcky’s Kitchen in the Southern Cross Arcade food court is one of those Asian BBQ places you have to try if you like Asian BBQ Pork, Duck or Chicken. Served with Rice, Tossed Noodles or in a Noodle Soup. The Meats are delicately cooked and very tender. The Roast pork belly has crackling to die for. The roast duck is just so tasty. The noodle and rice dishes come with a side of a roast chicken broth as well. Well worth the small wait for the made to order goodness.

The food here is prepared to order and consistently good. It can take a while, but is worth the wait if you have time. Prices are average for a hot lunch(just under $ 10). This is my comfort food destination when I’m having a bad day at work.

Great spot for authentic Sinaporean/Malaysian Chinese noodles under $ 10. Go for the crispy pork noodles with soup. But be early as it sells out by 1pm.

One of my personal fave Malaysian chinese in Adelaide. Definitely worth a try if you haven’t try it before. Ricky’s Kitchen offers all your regular authentic Malaysian meat dishes: Roast Pork, BBQ Pork, Roast Duck/chicken and Fragrant duck/chicken. And you get to choose your choice of starch. Here’s what you get: Jasmine rice, thin Noodles, hokkien noodles, and beehoon(thin rice noodles) and Kway teow(thick rice noodles). Rice dishes will comes with a complementary Chicken broth if I didn’t remember wrongly. All the food will be served with a side green garlic/onion sauce and chilli sauce. Once you ordered at the counter, you will be handed a ticket number. Now you can go take a sit and relax, wait for your number to show up on the digital screen and you can go and collect the food. Ricky’s kitchen’s staff are very efficient, so you can expect a short wait if the queue isn’t long. So far, I’ve pretty much tried most meat dishes already. They are good, authentic Malaysian/singaporean flavours. While I felt that they are generous with the meat portion, I always feel the starch serving size doesn’t always match up. The sauces are the differentiating factor between the good food and the great ones. Ricky’s sauces are as good as any South East Asian’s stalls in the region. The chilli sauce aren’t just your regular chilli, they probably added a hint of lime and garlic to it. Authenticity at it’s best! There’s may be places who cook authentic malaysian food, but failed to produce good complementing sauces. At Ricky’s Kitchen, you’ll only get the best.

With the addition of Ricky’s there are now TWO reasons to visit Southern Cross Food Court(the first being the excellent banh mi at Daily Choice). Ricky’s has a cult following in its original inception in the Central Market food court and I’m one of the cult. I absolutely LOVE Ricky’s specialty: hainanese chicken rice. Mmm, that tender, crispy-skin chicken and its accompanying ginger and chilli sauces and soft-as-a-cloud rice… it’s a daydream. And one you can now get in the middle of the CBD as well as Chinatown. Yay! It’s hard to go past his famous dish, but Ricky’s also has some great authentic Chinese food on offer — you can order anything and know it’ll be fresh, cheap, plentiful and most importantly, delicious!

Ricky’s Kitchen is situated in the food court in the Southern Cross Arcade. It is entirely out of place, and in a good way. Unlike most food court stalls which serve up substandard, formulaic and tepid dishes which sit under a heat lamp all day, Ricky’s food is fresh, delicious and all in all a culinary sensation. Formerly situated in the markets, Ricky has brought the quality one would expect on Gouger St to the center of the city. Their specialty is bbq duck, pork, and chicken, which serve as the base of most dishes. They are put to many uses, including a fantastic noodle soup, where the roast meat(i go the duck) is dunked within a sea of fragrant broth. There is a choice from a number of different types of noodle, a chili sauce and some kind of delicious green sauce which I think is based on coriander or some other herb. Naturally, as the food is not served tepid from the warmth of a heat lamp, there is a bit of a wait, which potentially could pose a problem if you are in a rush on your lunch break, but it is well worth the wait if you have the time.
