Came here last Friday for a coffee and some chocolate. Was not disappointed., there is so much to choose from. I had a chocolate Muffin which was heated to make it really yummy. Coffee was good and staff friendly and knowledgeable. Rundle Street is a vibrant place and this place just adds to the Vibe. Check it out yourself recommend this place.

If you want to pay large amounts of your hard-earned money on the smallest portions of rock hard brownies, soggy waffles and generally unsatisfactory food then please, make your way down to Cocolat. You can choose between either the Henley beach store and risk getting blown over by the wind or attacked by seagulls, or the Rundle street store where you’re accompanied by many drunken hobos. Oh and god forbid I ask for a straw to complement my glass of water, this isn’t acceptable as I haven’t ordered a milkshake. To sum it up if you want shit, small portioned food and to be death stared by staff while eating your meal atop a chode sized table adorned by dysfunctional light bulbs and minuscule bugs which refuse to fuck off, then please come on down. Thanks for an amaaaaazing experience Cocolat.

I wasn’t sure whether to say anything about this last experience but I’m going to do it anyway. I ordered a soy iced latte which came to $ 7.95. I was gobsmacked. The girl had assumed I wanted the middle size. The soy was $ 1 extra which seems pretty heavy — in would normally pay 50 or 60 cents. Ok, fine. It came out with ice cream in it. She hadn’t asked whether it was ok to have ice cream in it or not with me ordering soy. Most places do. I had hoped for just ice. I should have clarified. A waiter took it back and brought it with ice. I asked whether a) a new one had been made — he said yes although it looked like the ice cream had even scooped out and ice thrown in the glass, I could see specks in the drink. And b) whether the reason I’d been charged almost $ 8 was because of the ice cream — he said he’d check and didn’t come back. Having given 5 stars on my last visit it pains me to change that to just a measly 2 but I was really disappointed. I hope, if I go back that this was a one-off.

Cocolat’s one of those places you go to for a treat for yourself. I’ve sampled many a cake and serve of gelato and hands down the best thing they make is the hazelnut gelati. I have never had anything so much like food heaven in my mouth. It’s not too sweet, it’s full of flavour and it goes down nice and easy. In fact, it’s so amazingly good, I’ve forked out the money to buy a take home tub. Alas that the take home tub does not last long! I also rather liked their little chocolate«Guilt,» which were rich and delicious, but really, the best thing for me is the hazelnut gelato. Actually, the blood orange sorbet is pretty amazing too, and the raspberry one is to die for. In this summer heat, Cocolat’s range of gelato and sorbets are fantastic. And the service is good too. Oh, and they have disabled access, which is a BIG plus in my book.

I came here with a friend because there was plenty of seating(all the other places in Rundle Street were packed!). The staff are very friendly too, and my long black was delicious! I also had a salted caramel cheesecake … which wasn’t very salty, unfortunately. So I had a rather nice caramel cheesecake: P It was pretty pricey(about $ 9.50 for the dessert!), as mentioned by other reviewers. All in all, a good place to visit due to the seating options, and the range of desserts on offer. My only criticism(apart from price) is that they don’t have the raw desserts available like the Rundle Place kiosk does — maybe not as much call for them in the main store?

Great for a sweet treat on a friday night… or any time really– if you can get a table! It’s busy because it’s good. The drinks are all delish and my favourite– ice cream, is top notch! Before making my selection i tried multiple flavours and boy that made it even harder to decide but i eventually settled and regretted nothing! Yay for sugary deliciousness!!!

Cocolat is an icon of sorts on Rundle Street, most people have been here at least once and it sets a high standard for the dessert cafés in Adelaide. The store sprawls over a narrow block and opens out the back into the lane ways near Ebenezer Place and the Belgian Beer Café. The long displays a show a grand variety of sweet treats and the chalkboard lists the delights of the day. I’m a big fan of the waffles and crepes here and the cakes are mouthwatering rich. The chocolates and truffles are also delightful but not quite as good as Haigh’s but their white chocolate offerings are fabulous. Coffee is café stock-standard and oddly enough so are the hot chocolates(nearby Chocolate Bean is a place for hot/cold chocolate devotees). I really do enjoy Cocolat but I’ve always found the store to be slightly over priced and the customer service can be off putting. I’ve been quietly stunned by the brash service I’ve received in store, particularly when the store is quiet and I can’t really see a source of stress or pressure on the staff. Other than the odd service that I’ve had occasionally, its still a fab store and worth the visit.

30/12/2011 Cocolat is memorable… I mean… there’s not that many chocolate shops on Rundle Street, so it’s great to come here if you have room for dessert… This place is real cosy, warm and nice to be in. The beautiful brown and white interior theme is perfect — think long counter, white walls, just enough lighting, and high ceilings… I felt like I was inside a chocolate bar. And oh… there’s so many delicious options to choose from. This is an ideal date spot(I’ll definitely take my next girlfriend here) — but a great place for hanging out with a group of close friends as well. One thing to be ready for: It gets packed on the popular Friday/Saturday nights guaranteed — there are plenty of tables, but you might have to walk all the way to the back if every other table is taken. If not, you’re going to have to wait for a group to leave.

I’ve always thought of Cocolat as female-equivalent to a strip club. When guys go out on the town for boys-only occasions, the strip club is the stereotypical place for men to go to drown their sorrows, whinge about their wives and stare at other women. On the contrary, I’ve always noticed large groups of women frequenting Cocolat to indulge in ludicrous amounts of chocolate and laugh at their pathetic boyfriends/husbands. Having said that, Cocolat is a top dessert destination and is a perfect place to wind down the evening. The outdoor seating at the back of the shop is great for warm nights with its quaint and romantic setting, making it an ideal spot to go for a date if you’re looking to make them swoon. As the name suggests, everything in this shop revolves around the almighty cacao. The hot chocolates and mocha lattes are superb and go beautifully in conjunction with a decadent piece of chocolate cake or single chocolate treat. Warm desserts are also well-worth giving a try and go well with gelato, including the crepes and waffles. And if you’re in the mood for an alcoholic beverage, then a chocolate cocktail will fix you right up. That’s right, even the cocktails have chocolate in them!

There are so many things to like about Cocolat and one is the many funny ways that people pronounce the café’s name. Being located on busy Rundle St, there is always a steady stream of people coming through the place during the day and through the night because of its long trading hours into the early morning. The menu consists of many chocolate related categories including gelati, cakes, individual chocolates, crepes and waffles. Their Ferrero Roche gelati also has won numerous awards as the best in South Australia, which is not hugely important as people will need little extra incentive in order to try it. The mini cakes are delicious but slightly deceiving. Even if you order a smaller one, it takes a good effort to finish the whole thing regardless of which kind or combination of chocolate that you order. My personal favourite is the Bailey’s which is amazing and not strongly alcohol or Bailey’s flavoured. The cake is so delectable and rich, that is quite a challenge to finish and I would love to see anyone eat a whole one without having to excuse themselves to go to the bathroom first.

Where to start? I would happily spend a week here, just working my way through the menu until I had finally tried everything. I’ve done my best, but there’s just so much deliciousness! Things I love about this store: the variety of cakes, and the fact that they come in mini and standard sizes. The ice-cream. Chocolaty ice-cream heaven. The drinks. Hot chocolate, coffee, chocolate cocktails — you cannot go wrong. Not to mention the crepes, waffles, brownies and muffins. It’s almost cruel that you can’t have it all, all at once. I think I’d die of diabetes right then and there. I don’t have specific recommendations for what to get here, because it’s all fantastic. The cakes are very flavoursome, so just make sur you go for a flavour you know you like, because it’ll be strong. Actually, I think the ice-cream here is my favourite. I love their range of flavours, and they do a particularly nice Belgium chocolate here — to be expected! This place makes me happy.

Chocolat. Chocolat. Chocolat. What more can I say? It’s all in the name. I was taken here for breakfast one time, ordered the chocolate waffles, and I never want to go anywhere else for breakfast ever again. The incredibleness of this breakfast cannot be described. Absolutely amazing. It is definitely somewhere which needs to be tried by every one. Be warned, it is a very popular place for a coffee or desert, so be prepared that it could be fairly busy if you want to find somewhere to relax. The best news I read on their website? Not only do they have a shop in Rundle St, they are also located in the airport and at Balhanna in the Adelaide Hills. Prepare to have your taste buds tantalised!

I feel compelled to write another review for this chocolate shop which differs a little from the others. I do like the ambience and décor of this establishment. The chairs are lusciously upholstered and there is carpet on the floor so it isn’t too noisy even when the place is packed(which is often). The other thing that is reallly good here is the ice cream: Their Ferraro Rocher flavour won the best ice cream in Australia which is very impressive. The staff are helpful and patient, when choosing from the vast array of sweet temptations On the downside, the desserts are usually overly sickly so I would suggest at least sharing, so your pancreas doesn’t go into toxic overload. The other thing I cannot believe that they don’t get right is the hot drinks. The coffee is average and the mocha is very disappointing. I don’t know how they get this wrong in a chocolate café. I venture back occasionally hoping for it to be different but to no avail. If you visit stick to Ice Cream and tea!

From the top of my head(and a little bit of cheating) here are just some of the delicious selections at Cocolat…
— Bailey’s Embrace — Blonde Brownie — Blueberry Cupcake — Carrot Cupcake — Chocolate and blueberry Muffin — Topdeck hot chocolate — Chilli hot chocolate — Waffles — Harry Hazelnut — Lime and Passionfruit cheesecake — Mocha Mud cake — Rocky Road — Tiramisu — Homemade truffles — Gelati I guess I should also quickly mention that Cocolat is conveniently located on Rundle Street, and although not a small store, it gets rather busy and therefore a seat is not always guaranteed. Ps. The chocolate waffles are the bomb.

My friends and I affectionately call it Cock-a-lot because its like every mouthful is orgasmic. Look it made sense when we were drunk on chocolate. But forget chocolate for a second… do you like cheesecake? Because firstly I have to say that the Cocolat lime and passionfruit cheesecake is dare I say it absofuckinglutely amazing. You can shut me up with this dessert, so better order me the bigger more expensive size; most deserts come in a mini and a normal which is helpful if you’re trying to cut back on the sweets. But then if you are on a diet, Cocolat is not a safe place for you. You know, you can create your own version of a Cadbury Milk Tray in this place, only the chocolate is better and the process of obtaining it is oh so much more satisfying, its a great idea for a valentines gift or an apology to your chocolate fiend girlfriend. nothing bribes quite like chocolate and flowers! I have to say, as much as I rate this lovely land of chocolate martinis(yes it is licensed here too!) it’s often hard to get a table, I feel that it may be time for them to expand because it’s just so popular. It makes me a tad sad to know that 60% of the time I’m going to miss out on the romance that is Cocolat simply because there is nowhere for me to sit and they won’t let me camp out in a corner.

Well, what can I say — I attempted to take a photograph of the deliciously presented confection that I ordered at the counter in this fabulously welcoming café but somehow I had got my photograph taking hand all sort of muddled as I was doing the taste test. You know the taste test! When you sample just a tiny bit of the wonderful dessert you’ve ordered before you actually take the photograph of it? I really was intending on offering you a sample — well you know what I mean; I was going to give you a lovely little shot that showed how gorgeous the desserts are in this quite excellent dessert café… I don’t think any blame should be placed here anyway. After all the name of the business does really say it all. You can get yourself a coffee and a gelati if you feel like it, or settle for one of the many extraordinary desserts… I just couldn’t help it really. It’s not that it was a small portion, although I did opt for the smaller size portion available. Just about everything comes in two sizes in this store; the usual size, and the smaller size. I opted for the smaller size, but it is not so small that you could woof it down in one big mouthful — it has quite a good deal of substance for a small portion as you would have seen if I hadn’t somehow become quite preoccupied with the second and third and fourth and subsequent mouthfuls I needed to shovel into my mouth, in order to confirm I was in fact not having an epiphany as such, just an extended moment of rapture if you like. It’s not that it was all over in seconds is what I’m trying to say — it actually took a few minutes to eat, I simply lost the plot and forgot to shoot the darn thing before I’d more or less left nothing on my plate. Ah well, like I say, you need to go and experience it for yourself any way. I mean you either love chocolate or you don’t. It is as simple as that. If you love it you will be so turned on by this dessert café you will probably ask if you can order a private room — they don’t actually have them — I did ask. (Seriously) This is divine. The atmosphere is very calm and the menu is outstanding. They provide free water for those who wish to have a drink of something cooling, as you may find yourself getting somewhat overheated as you peruse the delicacies on offer. I got out of there for under twelve dollars and I felt sumptuously guilty for about three hours, because I’m trying to drop a few kilos… You can’t have everything. You will probably want everything. Desserts, ice cream, gelati, coffee, other beverages… Potentially«Bring me a bucket!» territory for some, enter with caution, or throw caution to the wind. The kids should be restrained as welcome as they are, you will want to think about the ride home.

There are so many things to love about this place. The obvious one is the handmade chocolates and chocolate desserts, I am going to go against the grain and say I love the gelato here. My gawd, this gelato is so smooth and rich you’ll think you’re in Italy. Located at the East end of Rundle St, it’s nice and easy to find, with plenty of parking around. Definitely stop in here, if only to have a look at all the pretty chocolates.

I’d be giving this place an extra star if the service wasn’t so poor. And considering I’m a chocolate addict, being put off by the service(or lack of it) takes quite a bit of effort. The hot chocolate that I had was alright. I’ve had better. But the chocolate waffle was good, and I could be well and truly talked into going back just for that. The gelato is decent, and the cakes are worth considering. But really, please, improve the service.
