Goodies & Grains is a market visit staple. A large collection of nuts, flours, spices, muesli, dried legumes and more is all on offer here. The store has a large selection of organic products as well as gluten/​sugar/​dairy-​free goods. However I am not one of those people so can’t comment on that too much.
I now generally come here to grab nuts when I’m grocery shopping in the market as I’ve found some of the products just weren’t quite as fabulous as products I could source elsewhere. I’m mad for baking so have tried their various flour grades and found them not quite up to par as my standard products, and with a similar if not higher price point, it wasn’t worth trying again. I also have tried their cocoa varieties but found them to be expensive compared to good quality Dutch cocoa I can get from my local Foodland. Their dried legumes are generally OK, however most of the ones I like to buy aren’t from Australia and I prefer to buy Australian made. There is quite a large selection of spices out the back, but I have sometimes found the quality to be a bit lacking, flavours just don’t have as much kick as I’d normally expect, but then again, you are buying in bulk.
So of course, this review can only be about my personal experiences, I’m sure lots of people with dietary intolerances love this place for the variety it offers, but in my experience, its always been a little too pricey for the quality of stock.

Need for Speed.
These guys know service. Get you in, get you out, in a good way. They use pay pass for any amount, and their Industrial juicer makes short work of the raw veggies. Their prices are the best I’ve seen yet; we go for the juice. $ 5 – 8 small-​large. And they use organic veg when available. Glorious greens is the best.

Being healthy seems to be as cool as McDonalds and Pushpops were in the 90’s. And if you are looking to stock on many an item to keep you healthy this is the place. Whether you are being healthy to fit in to you lululemon pants/​Lorna Jane brightly coloured attire or are more of the hemp wearing environmentally conscious healthy variety this place has you covered.
They have stacks of grains (as the name would imply) so if you need something that doesn’t have gluten in it this is the place. The bulk bins are environmentally conscious as you don’t need excess packaging. Additionally they have cleaning products and others that you can refill your own containers with which is pretty neat.
They also stock a wide range of vegan/​gluten free/​sugar free/​paleo snack and grocery items. One of my favourite things here is the Byron bay superkraut which I can’t seem to find anywhere else, and the vegan/​coconut ice creams are pretty tasty.
The staff here is really great and seem to know about their products and healthiness in general.
You can find something to eat here regardless of what your eating needs are. Unless you can only eat MSG and High Fructose Corn Syrup…

As long as I can remember, I’ve been a Goodies & Grains customer. Over the past year they have GROWN in popularity and I can FULLY understand why. Any type of health food. they have it! They are always on top of trends, and I never leave empty handed. The salads, raw desserts and CHIA PUDDINGS are always on my mind. It’s rare to open my fridge at home and not find one. I’ve been known to drive into the city purely to satisfy my Goodies craving. The staff are lovely, well-​informed and always eager to lend a hand when needed. Do yourself a favour and head on over. You’ll be overwhelmed by choice, but sure to thank me later.

A visit to Adelaide means a visit to lots of lovely bars and potentially lots of lovely vineyards. Read: your body will be punished.
Goodie & Grains is the ultimate antidote to this reckless lifestyle. Your liver will sigh in relief when you walk inside and cop an eyeful of the huge variety of kombuhca, coconut water, cartons of wheatgrass and the massive juicer ready to blitz vegetable and fruit nutrients in to a tonic for you.
If you’re hungry right there and then, you can get a massive protein ball or spirulina and seed slice to snack on and grab a seat outside the front of the store. Otherwise, peruse the aisles and stock up on grains, nuts, flours and other bits and pieces to fill your home pantry with healthful goodies.

For someone with some food intolerances like me, this place is like a grocery gold mine.
Can’t have Sugar? They’ve got options!
Can’t have Gluten? They’ve got options!
Can’t have Dairy? They’ve got options!
Can’t have Soy? They’ve got options!
Can’t have Preservatives? They’ve got options!
I’m sure you get my point.
The staff are so knowledgable, helpful and mostly — UNDERSTANDING!
They know that in most cases, you didn’t choose this sometimes inconvenient intolerance and are happy to help you work around it.
Ask any question and if they don’t know the answer they will find it out for you.
I have discovered soooo many wonderful products in this store, that have now become staples in my household. 100% Australian, 100% Peanut, Locally Made Peanut Butter anyone? You can’t have any of mine — it’s got my «ate it straight from the jar» germs but you should go and get your own.
If you are looking for ingredients or ready to eat snacks and meals which will be nice to your tummy, you can and will, find them here.

Tucked away in Market Plaza arcade, off the main Adelaide Central Market hall, is a hidden gem. Part bulk-​whole foods store, part juice, salad and cake café, Goodies & Grains does both justice.
Having been a long time fan of their tubs of «Andean Grain Mix», it was about time I tried some of their ready to eat options. Staff are on hand to help you select from the vast bulk wholefoods range and to guide your juice or take away salad, wraps & cake selection.
After a browse in their laden deli cabinets of salads, full to the brim wraps, risotto balls and sweet treats, my first selection was for two «small» take away tubs of salads.
The Cajun quinoa and pumpkin had a rich flavour and variety of textures from soft sweet potato, crunchy quinoa and corn, savoury capsicum and fresh parsley. Definitely close to the top of the pile of take away salads.
Not to be outdone is the Spiced Brown Basmati salad with crunchy pieces of asparagus, cashews, edamame and red cabbage. Another top five finish for best salads.
Not only were the salads delicious on their own, but they came with a choice of three innovative dressings, like the tahini lemon and garlic, and the Asian Style Cashew dressings, both of which were thick, creamy, perfectly balanced and flavourful.
Despite a small price tag of $ 5 each, the two small size tubs made generous side dish serves for a dinner for two.
Also hard to pass up was a slice of «Emily’s» Raw Cacao and Cashew Tart ($ 4.90). The serving was on the small side but it was absolutely delicious, undoubtedly the best raw, vegan sweet I’ve ever had!
The base was firm and nutty, the cashew layer smooth and choc-​caramel flavoured, and on top the silkiest, most chocolatety ganache ever. if i could eat this cake every day I would!
Get yourselves to Goodies & Grains because you will definitely make friends with their salads and can feel good about their delish sweets!

Great salad and food in general. Great flavours and healthy. A bit on the pricey side for buying things generally in store though. Will back again for the food that’s for sure.

Love this store! It’s an institution at the Adelaide Central Markets and stocks everything from Dark Belguim Chocolate buttons to Cacoa powder to organic honey (yes, yes, I’m a sweet tooth).
The staff are helpful although usually relatively inundated as this store is often busy.
It’d be great to have recipe cards on hand as the ingredients I seek from Goodies & Grains are often for my more adventurous cooking. For example, if a Raw Chocolate recipe had been on hand I would’ve definitely bought the ingredients then and there.
Hats off to Adelaide for supporting this great store!

We visit Goodies & Grains pretty much every week, since they have a huge range of products. Yes, some things are expensive … but some are very reasonable, as you can purchase them in bulk.
My partner puts together a special museli made up of whatever we feel like buying from the bulk section — much healthier than packaged cereals, more filling, and waaaaay cheaper! It’s only when you buy their pre-​packaged products that the prices go up.
Goodies & Grains also make fantastic juices in pretty much any combination you can think of — nice and fresh, and not too pricey. They also have a large range of natural skincare products and environmental cleaners, as well as organic chocolate … in fact, anything you can think of that is not necessarily available in mainstream supermarkets.
Some of their products are even available in the more gourmet Foodlands around the suburbs too — good to know if you can’t get to the market!

I only came here for a freshly squeezed juice, but I could see all around the multitude of available items at this store. This is a haven for those who love their organic produce & health foods.
They have a checklist they put up daily where the juices are made saying which ingredients are organic for this particular batch (how clever!).
I had an apple, watermelon and orange juice with mint and it was delightful, and made in moments with their epically huge juicer. The service was really friendly, and she suggested I sip some off the top so she could pour more into my cup.
Lovely juice, even lovelier people.

I love Goodies & Grains, but they are a little on the expensive side sometimes as some of the others have mentioned. One example: Adzuki beans (not organic) were around $ 6 a kg, while at House of Health in the Central Markets they were $ 5 a kg (organic). I’m not saying… I’m just saying. Love Goodies & Grains, they have a great selection of difficult to find items for health conscious folk like myself but I wish they could help a poor University student out by offering cheaper organic options.

You don’t usually find me in a health food store, but I was going through a particularly hard time at uni and was looking for a natural sleeping aid to help me sleep. Okay, so the tablets I brought actually kept me awake for three days straight the first time I used them (I was too scared to try them again), but I don’t blame that on the shop.
The staff were friendly, and helped point me toward the area I needed and left me to browse. I wish they’d offered their suggestions on which product would suit me best, but oh well.
They have a big selection here of vitamins, and other health related products.

Goodies and Grain’s has got to be one of my favourite shops in the market. They have a massive range of grains, dried fruits, nuts and chocolates and literally cater to all hippies, food allergies and nutritional needs. Plus they have super cheap and delicious Turkish Delight. If I had to pick my favourite product I would be hard pressed to choose. They stock these amazing (and healthy) Rice and Quinoa Balls for $ 3 and do fruit and vegetable shakes that are as good for your body as they are for your taste buds. Goodies & Grains also serves main meals and tarts on a revolving menu, which includes things such as vegie and bean Tikka on brown rice and raw tarts (blueberry and mango). Delicious, super friendly staff, and good for you, what’s not to love bros!

This is your typical health food store that suffers its customers no dietary guilt, since it’s all good for you.
Any guilt lies in the cost. I know goat’s milk is very important to some people, and I trust those people are more than happy to pay $ 10.40 for two litres of it, but it’s certainly not for everyone. We have to pay a high price to keep our bodies in the condition we want to, or to take a personal stance on the consumption of meat.
The selection is incredible as well, with your scoop-​it-​yourself nuts, your scoop-​it-​yourself oats and cereal, your healthy cheeses and vegan alternatives, etc., etc. As mentioned earlier, however, be prepared to encounter some steep prices. We take for granted that health stores charge more for what they sell, but even for a health store Goodies & Grains seems a little excessive (compared to other such stores). Perhaps it’s for superior quality of goods, I can’t be sure. I heartily claim ignorance on the matter. Like I’ve said, just wear a chin protector in case your jaw hits the ground when you bring your purchases to the counter and hear the very lovely staff declare the cost of it all. It’s easy to get carried away in these places. However, once you’ve shed some tears over your hungry wallet and gotten the grief out of your system, you’ll be happy with what you’ve bought. All my purchases have been delicious.

Goodies and grains is not all this place stocks. You can pick up oodles of healthy alternatives to the mass-​produced stuff you get in the supermarket; natural toothpaste, goat and sheep milk products, honey, organic fruit and veg, carob… the list goes on.
Then there are the tubs and big buckets of grains and snacks that you can scoop and pay by weight.
They also stock a great range of alternative-​grain breads — a little pricey, but very delicious.
I’ve always liked this store and the service is great. However, I dropped into an expensive looking organic shop on the other side of Gouger Street recently and was surprised to find it was considerable cheaper than Goodies and Grains. I’d thought the supermarket design and bulk foods was a more cost-​effective way to purchase. Seems not. I’ll still shop here, but plan to be a little more aware of the price tags.

I’m always looking for sources of raw food so I know exactly what I’m eating — or serving up to people. There is no better way to take control over your food and what is in it than to find a decent raw produce shop, like the ones that were very popular back in the good old days of ‘Little House on the Prairie’. You know, the big barrel of sago or the tub of honey you could tap and fill the bottle or jar you have been carrying around for years because you like it so much?
Well Goodies and Grain is one of those shops. You can select from fresh herbs and spices in the bulk section. Fruits nuts and berries, grains and beans, legumes, all of those sorts of things to eat plus breads and drinks that are healthy or good for you because they combine some special ingredients.
You can get fresh wheat grass drinks here and totally yummy salad or slices of yogurt cake. Breakfast cereal or even seeds to plant in the garden — all of those things and more are here and the price is pretty reasonable. The staff are helpful and the idea of providing your own carry bag is extended to bringing your own carry jar or paper bag for everything you purchase. It is all about being as sustainable as possible and having a low carbon footprint. Oh and great quality food.
