You had me at dumplings and beer Kenny Wang! This beer garden style pop up bar seemed to come out of nowhere. I heard about it in a passing conversation in Adelaide. Kenny Wang is set up as a pop up bar brought to you from the Wright Street Hotel. What a awesome idea and so happy to see pubs trying something new. It is a hard game at the moment for pubs with so many little bars and restaurants popping up everywhere. The Wright Street is definitely being competitive! The owners made a great use of space and designed the aesthetics of the bar so exciting and fun! After passing through the massive doors you transcend into what feels like Hong Kong or Tokyo. There are cool street signs along the entry, some mentioning not to feed the monkeys. You are then faced with some fish tanks and a lovely Buddhist style shrine. The clever part is the bar and kitchen. It has been constructed within shipping containers. I love seeing something like this. Recycling and using materials that are cost effective but really cool! The bar and kitchen is very open and attractive. Great selection of beer on tap, wine and a handsome Asian themed cocktail menu. There is something in the bar for everyone. As for the food, wow! What a selection of dumplings. All of the dumplings are a bit different. Inclusive of crab and barramundi dumplings. They where all very fresh and flavoursome. My only suggestion would be to include some extra sauces. But, I will be back for more! This is an outdoor bar, so during the colder months they have set up some gas heaters to keep you warm. But don’t worry, after a few beers and dumplings you will feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It will be around for the next two years, so get in and show your support!

This place is very neat! Love, love, love the whole fit out of the place and upon the entering you are immediately mesmerized with the lane way entrance as it is inspired by the street lights of Tokyo and there’s also a cool and real extravagant Buddhist shrine table as well. You can obviously see there has been much thought and input to be this whole place together all down to the little details as well. Staff are super friendly and atmosphere is fantastic! The sound of a dumpling and beer bar sounds great already. At the moment in Adelaide there has been a surge in popularity for Asian street food and Kenny Wang’s is taking it to another level with this swanky bar and its own interpretation of modern Asian cuisine. There’s a selection of Aussie beers as well as Asian inspired drinks and I got a really delicious drink called ‘Bloody Kim Jong-Il’ which basically is like a Bloody Mary. I only chose it because the name of it actually made me chuckle. The menu(written in both English and Korean) is not very extensive but most of the items on the menu sound very appealing. My friend ordered a steamed dumpling dish with a wonderful, fresh, crispy salad and I got a huge plate of prawn crackers with satay dipping sauce. I must give some extra points for that satay sauce! It is a beautiful green colour and the citrus elements gave it a real pow and I think there were lentils in it as well? Whatever it was it gave it a nice texture. Another friend of mine went here a few days after I did and she thought the food was a real let down but I think they have only been open for a month so it’s only fair to be little lenient on them as they are still trying to find their feet. Would be happy to go back to try out the other drinks and items!
