I’d spotted this secluded little eatery a while ago but finally got to go past at the right time of day. I didn’t go the Sushi route like many, instead I was daring(as usual) and went for the chicken and fish Bento. and yumm it was. Served as usual with sticky rice, I was presented with a few strips of the Teriyaki chicken and a couple of small crumbed fish fillets(both dressed with Cupi Mayo and Katsu Sause plus a vege spring roll. all that for under $ 10.00. The tastes were great as well. Grab a snack or lunch if you are nearby, it’s good stuff

Maki Maki is one of my favourite cafes in the CBD which serves inexpensive, yet delicious and traditional Japanese meals. I find myself coming here at least once a week. Meals are all around the $ 7.50 mark and provide excellent value. Two of my particular favourites are the curry and udon dishes. Their sushi(which starts around $ 2.30) is also delicious, and is the best in the CBD. Taiyaki is also available on request. They also have comfortable seating areas and occaisionally have a traditional Japanese flautist playing during lunch hour. Maki Maki can be a little hard to find, being located in Parc Arcade, just off Gawler Place North. This, however has its benefits as the location provides a sanctuary from the noise and rush of Rundle Mall.

With the Grenfell St car park offering $ 6 parking for 3 hours I am often dropping by this place for a quick couple of sushi rolls to fill me up for lunch. Always fresh, well put together and quickly served, Maki Maki is a bit of a hidden hot spot in Adelaide for sushi rolls. Great flavours, I’m a fan of their fresh salmon and avocado with that creamy Japanese mayo and of their Spicy Tuna — nice amount of kick and packed with flavour. Haven’t tried anything else here but this place sticks to the KISS principals like Jeff E said, it is dead quiet anytime I am there and I probably wouldn’t hang around in the empty restaurant but it always suits my «on the run» sushi needs just fine.

18÷1÷2012 Photos 1 Sushi Rolls under $ 5 each 2 Combo Packages 3 Small and very quiet Japanese café 4 A few tables and chairs, yet vacant 5 Cans of Green Tea from Japan I’ve never seen before(one star for that) 6 Once you sit down, you realise you have to stand up again to get your napkins yourself. The best sushi and service in Adelaide? Sorry, I really have had better elsewhere.

Subscribes to the KISS philosophy: Keep it Simple Stupid. Meals are basic, cheap(around the $ 8 mark) and done well. It’s quick and you can always find a seat. Maki Maki hides in the Gawler Arcade adjacent to RAWspace and around the corner from the centre of Rundle Mall. I’ve been here twice. This time I had a Salmon and Chicken Teriyaki bento box. It was simple, to a fault, but my disappointment in the lack of elaborateness melted away with the fresh tasting salmon sashimi. The teriyaki sauce was a cut above, well balanced and a little mayo(I don’t normally like mayo) added some tang. The teriyaki and other hot food components are retrieved from the hot food display at the counter. Disenchanting, but it still tastes fine. Relaxed, clean, franchisable interior with white walls and a polished logo. Cheap prices and out of sight from the hordes(for now). I’ll be back. Someone was playing the flute during my lunch! Lots of sushi available too.
