I had never been to Oporto before today, and from judging the quality of their fast food, I will never go back. I gave this franchise two stars because the service was moderately fast and the server was really nice. A lot of people I know rave about Oporto and their supposedly delicious chicken burgers and sides, which is fairly cheap I must admit. So I ordered a Bondi Burger in a meal with a small serve of spicy chicken bites on the side. The fries were cooked and salted lightly but I found them bland to the point where I had three and threw them aside to find something presumably tastier. The spicy bites were next and I was equally disappointed by how utterly bland they were. Sure, they were spicy, and they are(arguably) chicken, but no taste. At all. Lastly was the Bondi Burger. Now I’m a person who is a fan of a good burger. I make them myself, I source good locations to find them, and I love trying new types of them. This burger was none of the above. It was smaller than the fries. I mean. c’mon guys. this is your product? I took a bite and surprise! No flavour again! The only thing I could taste was the optional chili sauce I ordered. I took out a piece of chicken untainted by the sauce and my senses weren’t wrong at all. Bland. The Fanta was the only part of the meal I finished. Disappointing and bland food. I’m definitely not going back.

It’s been a decade since I last enjoyed Oporto. At 31, it’s not quite what my 21 year-old brain remembers, but it’s still a decent grilled sandwich. Perhaps better than other [all fried] fast food, but still in the same category. Also, their sauces($ 0.50 each) taste overly processed, leaving your palette with an unpleasant aftertaste. Sadly, New Zealand may have spoiled me with its abundant sources of delicious garlic mayo.

Oporto reminds me of lazy days at Bondi Beach after a night of watiressing, stuffing my face with a Bondi Burger and the best chips I have ever eaten!(Well close to!) These days, I work a 9 – 5 job in Adelaide nowhere near the beach. However it doesn’t mean I don’t still get a kick out of going to Oporto to get my beloved Bondi Burger. Oporto actually appeared in Adelaide not long before I had my daughter, so it satisfied the crazy spicy-chilli cravings I was having quite satisfactorily! Even if you are not the biggest chilli fan, I would steer you in the direction of the Bondi Burger. It is Oporto’s claim to fame, and showcases their portugese style chicken in the best way. It’s a great alternative to the other fast-food burger chains out there, as the chicken is freshly cooked and the salad not limp and disappointing. And if you must, you can order the Bondi without the chilli — but you’re really missing out if you do! As I mentioned before, the chips/fries are certainly better than ordinary. Seasoned slightly, they seem to compliment the portugese marinade on the chicken. The service is fast, and efficient and you’ll have to keep a keen ear out for your order number. It’s always great to see a fast-food venue that is Australian owned, and operated. A great alternative to your more ‘commercial’ enterprises.

The staff are really friendly and super efficient. The queuing system is strange but I’ve never waited long. I hear the chicken is good, it smells good. The chips are delicious and the spicy sauce has a good amount of kick. They know me now, and kindly replace chicken with pineapple :) which is both a sign I go here too much and that they’re friendly. Would recommend over other fast food joints at city cross.
