I visited the address in Archer Street in June 2013. It is empty and for lease. There was no indication that Owls has moved to another address. I have given it star and price ratings as they are required to lodge a review!

Owls is a lovely little second hand book shop in North Adelaide, Situated in a little glass fronted building on Archer Street, just a little way down off O’Connell Street. Inside, the bookshop is cluttered in an orderly sort of way as far as second hand book shops go. The shop consists only of one room, so space is obviously an issue, but the books are neatly arranged on their shelves and divided into fiction and non fiction, and then into categories within those broader definitions, such as literature, history, gardening, cooking, health and music. There are also quite a good number of interesting books on art. Owls take eftpos and credit card, which can be handy, and is a bit unusual in the second hand book game. They are also interested in purchasing books in good condition.

Don’t be frightened by the creepy owl on the window. This book store has a bounty of great reads. Stocked with books of all sorts from wall to wall, you’ll be browsing the day away. There’s a cool place to chill and read. Not sure the etiquette on the reading room but I’m sure you can’t spend an entire day in there without gaining some attention.

Owls Secondhand Books is what a bookstore should look like — shelves towering up to the ceiling, packed to the brim with books of all shapes, sizes, colours and kinds. It’s sort of like Black Books but without Bernard Black. The range here is very extensive and very well sorted. It comes across as a very well-cared for collection. That said, it isn’t just a ‘collection’ — the prices are fairly reasonable, and most people could find something of interest here. Books with lots of colour pictures are a little pricier — so I stick to the library for art books. For old-fashioned romantics, this store will strike a chord, particularly for it’s simple, homey feel.

A gem of a bookstore on Archer Street, this has to be one of my favourite bookstores in Adelaide. It’s preloved, the décor is warm and inviting and they have some excellent books here at incredible prices. With row of shelves featuring fiction and non fiction books, there is everything of every genre from literature, arts, travel, food, gardening and more. I love the lounge aka fireplace room which boast a vintage sofa and lovely home décor. It truly sets a reading room setting for booklovers. It’s a perfect bookstore. Just think every books here carry a piece of history and charm from a previous book enthusiast. The journey of a book never finds its final destination does it? Perhaps not, how else are we to fill our hearts and minds with the richness of a tale and its characters.
