I visited YCN recently with my expectant friend and was pretty over freaking whelmed with the sheer amount of stuff a baby can require. We were after a baby bag and a browse at the usual cute bits ‘n’ pieces, but walked away empty handed. They had a sale on, with many of their bags reduced but we weren’t tempted because a) they were ugly and b) they were still around $ 150 a pop. They do have a massive range of furniture — we weren’t in the market for it but some of the set ups they had(especially the cots and bedding) were so cute it hurt. Though I would add, pretty pricey as well. In short: massive selection. Some cute stuff, some fugly stuff. Family friendly atmosphere. Pricey. Tip: if you visit their website please remember to turn your speakers OFF. Otherwise you will be scared to death with their loud jingle bursting out at you. I hate when they do that!

YCN stands for Your Child’s Nursery and it is as about as self explanatory as it gets as far as business names are concerned. They specialise in the kids bedroom and they do it with some very sweet things. They are mostly concerned with the first six months of your baby’s life and they break down the variety of things you are likely to need in the room where you store your baby. Items such as matinée jackets, like a day jacket for the baby are as important as the carry bag you kit out to be your traveling bag. Never had an infant? Well if you are thinking about it here is one shop worth visiting. Maybe you haven’t considered how much stuff you need that is baby specific. Sure people have been having babies for hundreds of years and getting along without a nursery as such, but all the discoveries that have been made and become standard operating procedure with babies are there because they all help. It helps having the right cot, the best nappy change area, the best solution for night lights — not thinking about the baby so much as yourself — to make the discomfort a baby can bring into your routine under a little more control so it doesn’t become too great a hassle too soon for you and your partner or friends and family. You can get baby sheets, a bassinet, a pram, a capsule for driving in the car, a cot and a mattress, and that is a simple few things. Quite often you would find yourself going through several different shops, which makes this one very good because they have those first six months really well covered and obviously would be able to refer you on to other places that assist with things you will need later.
