It’s about time the south west end of the CBD had a really cool place for lunch. This place is always lined up out the door if that’s any indication to the quality of food. I have had Banh Mi, Phở and Vietnamese iced coffee from here and all have been consistently 5 star. Everybody loves a good pork crackling and they do not disappoint. Keep up the great work!

A hole in the wall kind of place, plastic tables on the footpath, the food is fresh and tasty, a great addition to the local lunch circuit. Definitely worth a try folks! The Vietnamese rolls of the bread variety already have a little bit of spice and so if you say :“yes” to the question«Do you want chilli?», you damn well better like it hot as they sprinkle in extra rounds of the spicy lil red suckers!

So it’s about time I review this new kid on the block in the quiet part of the city southwest, my new fav place after Paddy’s Lantern for a fuss free, flavoursome and wholesome work day lunch. Today I was on a carb hunt, and my usual hangout Paddy’s just wasn’t gonna cut it. And I’m not carbo loading for any respectable reason like Tour Down Under this week or other endurance activities. Only noodles would curb his carb crave. Thank goodness for Vietnamese Laundy a refurbished ex-laundry shop which set up not too long ago, a stone’s throw away from Whitmore Square, the other side of the park of Café Troppo. Same side of Sturt street of House of Donkey, which sadly closed down in November last year. But vegos do not fret! Vietnamese laundry specialises in Vietnamese street food(but still oozing a bit of hipster vibe) this place has gained a loyal following of carnivores and vegetarians alike. The menu is pretty straightforward. Snacks, bread rolls(banh mi), cold rolls, salad«bowls» and noodle soup. Options: Vegetarian(make sure to check about the use of fish sauce) and meat(lemongrass chicken, crackling roast pork, prawn) and the lot(combination). My fav are the salad bowls($ 11 meat, $ 9.50 veg) because of the tangy dressing that makes my mouth water, crunchy fried shallots and peanut topping, and well marinated meat topping(lemongrass chicken yummo). I ordered takeaway today and almost skipped all the way back to work, very excited to devour the carb heaven that lies inside the cute noodle box. And don’t let the name of the dish«salad bowl» fool you because while the flavours are light and the mint and sliced cucumber is refreshing, it’s a generous serve — the takeaway box weight quiet a bit and I almost pulled a muscle carrying my noodle salad back to my office. The end result — happy taste buds, carb craving satiated and carb coma soon set in. A small post-lunch siesta would have been perfect :-) Note: The Vietnamese Laundry finally launch the«bar» part of their business last week after 5pm. Not sure if it’ll be a regular thing — check their Facebook page for updates.

Easily the Banh Mi I’ve ever had. The rolls are always deliciously crusty and fresh, and the meat is always top-notch. They put the perfect combinations of ingredients on each roll so it doesn’t lack in any specific department. They have a selection of other foods as well which so far have all been perfect. The Bao(Steamed Buns) are absolutely amazing. The venue is quite small but has a rustic sort of charm to it, with the plain brick walls etc, fits in well with other places that seem be using this very popular theme. Will definitely continue to eat here when ever I have the chance.

The best Vietnamese rolls in Adelaide CBD, hands down. Vietnamese Laundry is a small, funky lunch stop on Sturt St, just on the west side of Whitmore Sq, and provides some much needed competition to Café Troppo in the area. The décor is great, the staff are wonderful and the simple menu has not failed me yet. The roast pork in the Vietnamese roll is consistently great and has that perfect combination of meaty, crunchy texture that all good roast pork should have! The rolls come with your standard accoutrements — cucumber, shredded carrot, coriander, all served generously — with a great addition of rice noodles and finished off with delicious pâté. The cup of phở was some of the tastiest, simplest soup I have experienced outside Vietnam — a very simple yet incredibly delicious broth, with thin slices of beef, spring onion and generously seasoned with fresh pepper. The servings are huge and justify the slightly higher price for the rolls(currently $ 6.80 for a combination roll), the staff are great and the outdoor seating, while somewhat limited, really adds to the experience. It’s a lovely quiet part of town to enjoy lunch, and if you’re feeling so inclined, Whitmore Square is about ten seconds amble down the street and makes a great place for lunch. Best place in Adelaide for a Vietnamese lunch, will be coming back again and again anytime I find myself stuck in that godforsaken quadrant of the city!

Cheap and Cheerful means tacky and dodgy, right? That seems to be the trend with many places around Adelaide offering delicious Vietnamese food — it seems that if you want the food to be good, then you’ve gotta head to the worst part of town, chuck on your bullet proof vest and hope for the best –but those days are now over my friends! Vietnamese Laundry is changing things — for the better — they’ve got a delicious(yet basic) selection of authentic Vietnamese foods(think meat rolls, phở and dim sims) all available in a tidy and even trendy little venue. Decked out with a ‘laundry’ theme, the venue is very cool — and you’d think for the look of it that you’d pay a premium — and yes, the rolls aren’t the cheapest I’ve ever had(at around $ 6.80) but not the most expensive — and they were certainly worth every cent. The huge roll that landed at my table kept me full to the brim for a few hours — and teamed with some super tasty dim sims, well, I was happy as a pig in mud! Check out this place — very much worth the visit!
