Went to Market Street last Sunday to visit our all time favourite Chinatown Café… CLOSEDSUNDAYS, when did that happen? Panic, what to do now. enter the market foodhall and Vung Tau and a bowl of Phở became the solution. Traditional Phở came in a large bowl with plenty of mint, coriander, beanshoots and chilli to taste. Broth was subtle, if a little sweet but a few slivers of chilli took care of that. Only interesting touch I’m not sold on was using slivers of some type of sausage mixed with the traditional beef. This may be a variation I hadn’t seen before, or a cost cutting measure. Not sure. Nonetheless, if you are after a bowl of Phở, give Vung Tau a go

Best Phở in Adelaide! I just had the #1 for lunch and the broth was perfect, in fact everything about it was perfect. Such a shame we only come to the Central markets once a fortnight because I could have this for lunch every day if I lived closer to the city.

This unassuming vietnamese restraunt in the heart of the Central Market is the home to one of my favorite dishes in Adelaide, Vietnamese Combination Broken Rice. The servings are generous, the egg is never overcooked and the meat is crispy and delicious and the delicious fish sauce to pour over your rice couldn’t be any better. Recently I’ve been travelling Australia, and it is this dish from Vung Tau that I most hankered after once I left home. Highly recommended.

Today I had a food affair. I turned my back on my regular from the Market Plaza Food Court(bibimbap from Mum’s Kimbab) and tried a Bun Bo Xao(#8) from Vang Tau, a Vietnamese stall specialising in Phở. Bun Bo Xao is a beef salad on a bed of vermicelli noodles. This thing rocks the house. This bowl is so fresh the greens are still trying to photosynthesize when they reach your table. Topped off with: chili, peanuts, coriander… There are 10 menu items; each can be ordered as a medium($ 8) or large($ 8.80). I found the medium to be quite filling. Next time I’m trying some cold rolls.
