Here at The Earl we provide a warm atmosphere with open fires all winter. In the summer time you can bring your family and friends to relax in the large beer garden. For kids we have a playground for them to run around to burn off some excess energy. Parents can watch them closely while there are enjoying a beverage in the beer garden.

We have a wide range of boutique beers on tap, plus a couple of imported English ales. The wines we offer are only from the Great Southern region, because we believe in showcasing what the Great southern has to offer.

With live music Friday evenings from 8pm and Sunday from 5pm.

We also do functions, anything from birthdays, weddings, business functions or even just a family get together.

History

Established in 1884.

The Spencer Inn was established c1850s (according to Albany Rates Map). The building was originally a boarding house. In 1884 Richard Nesbitt obtained a wine and beer licence and its career as an inn began.

In the 1890s it was renamed the Earl of Spencer Inn. In the early 1900s it was de-​licensed and used as a grocery store. Then it was abandoned and became dilapidated until a consortium of local businessmen decided to restore it to its former glory. At great expense and with much effort, the building was remodelled in 1987 and is once again an inn.

The building has been praised as an example of restoration and remodelling and has won a number of building and tourism awards, including the Albany Architectural Awards 1989 for renovated building category. The following comments from an article in The Architect sums up the achievement:
