This review is like the Parkview: solid. I started going here about a year ago and have notched up an impressive number of rib meals. They have an excellent upstairs restaurant that is spacious, comfortable and quiet. The food is dependable upper grade pub food. The place has a nice vibe and pleasant, helpful staff.

So I have driven past this pub a million and one times and never been in. I have always been distracted by the bright lights of the eating houses in nearby Erskineville, Newtown and Enmore. After coming across their Facebook page recently, and Liking it, I started to notice they were really pro-active in getting customers in with all sorts of deals. So when the opportunity arose for me to suggest a new venue by the other half I jumped at the opportunity. So to start, this venue is nestled in the residential area of Alexandria right across the road from the infamous(for good reasons) Erskineville Oval. The venue is clean, happy and very inviting. There is a great rage of beers on taps and an incredibly well considered wine list —(don’t think the owner is part of a Chain or Buying Group(which is a good thing)). We sat down stairs who a quick pre-dinner beverage and all was good. Then upstairs to a great space which is the restaurant. It is a big open room with a bar. I love this for two reason, firstly, no running up and down the stairs by the staff all the time for drinks and secondly, it is great for parties and functions. We mixed and matched our entrees, which were above average and all came out one after the others. They were a little comfort food, which is good for the venue and it’s location. They included grilled Halloumi, Bruschetta, fried Duck rolls, mixed olives serviced in warm oil(tick) and spicy chicken wings with blue cheese sauce — all went down a treat. Main included a spicy vegetarian burger, chicken schnitzel, a New York Steak and Sirloin. This is where it came a little undone — the schnitzel and the burger were great and just want the consumers wanted, but sadly both the Sirloin and the New York, cooked perfectly Medium and Blue, were tough. They were a little on the warm side, the chips were warmer and one of the salads had no dressing. Somewhat disappointing ending, especially being a Monday night, but it won’t stop us from going back again.

Very close bar to my AirBnB so decided to check it out. I went with a few friends and the waiters were very friendly and even brought the food to us newbies. We tried at a meat raffle(one of us won!) and the burgers & beer we ordered were delicious. On Thursday, we had a chance to play with board games. although their selection of games were few and they closed pretty early; but, a great time overall!

Food well below standard for the area, and overprices when not a special’s lunch or night. Only thing worth eating off the menu is the schnitzel or chips. People wont pay for food they can cook better at home but at least it will never be one of those too cool for school places that you have to queue for a table at. Chewy tough steaks, tasteless aussie-mex quesedillas, and seafood that tastes like it was last week’s. Bleh.

Used to come here a lot when I worked in Alexandria. They had and probably still have a two for one dinner on Tuesday night as long as they were equal or one was less in value. Surprised to see the same friendly barman who was there 4 years back when I was more frequent. They have a $ 10 lunch menu, which is quite substantial. My own gripe was, I ordered cChicken Quesadilla. Doesnt Quesadilla imply cheese? There was no cheese to be seen. That aside it was quite delicious. They still have Pokies here, and it more or less hasnt changed from how I remember it years back.

I had been asked if I wanted to join a team this year playing soccer. I hadn’t played soccer for a number of years, I hadn’t played it well for even longer. Before the season started, members of the team all got together at the oval in Alexandria for a kick around. Despite the coming clouds and the forecast of rain, the kick around began and continued through the storm and ended when the little sun there was decided to call it a day. After the kick around, soaked in rain and covered in dirt from various sliding tackles, clumsy kicks and illegal trips, we all ventured across the road to the Parkview Hotel. Called thusly, I’m sure, because of it’s view of the park. The rain had subsided by this point and a dull light remained in the sky, this was the time they call dusk. We sat in the courtyard and drank our beers as the others talked and recanted stories of each others shortcomings and times of embarrassment. The beer was cheap and the courtyard open. A sliding door, partially opened, led to the street, to the cars and to home.
