This is a bit of a mixed blessing; motley elements of both good and bad that don’t necessarily outweigh each other, but essentially reach an even Stevens type arrangement. menu is limited but no exactly inspiring; but the qaulity of the poached eggs is very good. The chicken toasted sandwich i received was pretty ace, but there does not seem like an offering of good options. Service is enthusiastic and attentive and not much needs to be changed there. There are however, some very small tables inside, although this time, it wasn’t notoriously packed like it is on most occasions. Fresh juice and cakes and so-forth are available, and the interior is good a big communal table, fireplace(Gas) and wine rack. However, there are some patches or areas of the wall that are quite grotty and fallen into dis-repute. Still, they have a good alcohol list and option within. Perhaps they need to modify or make some changes to the breakfast menu(increase the options) or re-new but keeping it streamlined. Add some additions like baked eggs, and breakfast sandwich; sausage, egg, mushroom tomato and HP sauce. I would also recommend a tapas-snacking menu for those time when one doesn’t want to be bound be either«Breakfast» or «Lunch» options.

What is Grapeseed? Grapeseed is Melbourne’s version of Rosebud in Sydney, except Rosebud may have a little more class; although Grapeseed in trendy Armadale has it’s own style, class and finesse in a funny and simple sort of way. The service is pretty okay, yet I found it a great spot to catch up on much needed business phone calls until they turned up the music full blast, and then things got a little too noisy. The prices are okay, although High Street Armadale is an upper class type of area where things do not come cheap. Does provide a great social mecca, although this is an establishment that is more like a pit stop recharge than a café you will want to settle into. My ham, cheese and tomato panini was nice and warm, and was filling enough. The relish with the mini salad was quite complimentary, and their banana smoothies are also quite filling. The décor, the prices and the service received at this establishment was a little bit of a let down. I might come back, although there are other cafes I want to explore and enjoy a quality sit down type of lunch in. It will be great when some more cafes will re-open in the area once February 2012 kicks in.

One of my favourite places for lunch in Armadale used to be Grapeseed on High Street. I’ve never had a bad experience before with the food being mostly good and served promptly. Plus, the milk shakes are divine. Yesterday though things changed. Instead of a coffee and Steak sandwich(my usual order) I chose the Tandoori chicken wrap and ordered a freshly squeezed carrot, watermelon and celery juice. I wasn’t disappointed with the portion or taste and the Tandoori chicken wrap was pretty good — packed with lots of succulent, well marinated chicken pieces and just the right amount of salad so it didn’t fall apart when I bit into it. But I have to admit that issue I had was with the service. The waiter looked like he was in a bad mood and just didn’t want to be at work. We understand that everyone has good and bad days but in the service line, a black face means an unhappy customer and that isn’t good for anyone. Will I go back? I haven’t decided yet. But if everywhere else on High Street is crowded(as usual) and I have no other choice but Grapeseed, I’ll definitely try and avoid sitting in the section where the sour puss waiter is serving. No one wants to feel like they’re imposing on the waiter’s time and bad service really ruins everything!

I’d like to write a review about the food here but I can’t. I can’t tell you what my pasta was like, or my coffee. I can’t even tell you about my partner’s chips. I can’t review any of it because it never came. We waited a good 25 minutes, 15 of which were very polite. The other 10 were blighted by angry hunger — the worst kind of anger and hunger. It’s a great shame because there aren’t many good restaurants on High Street, and the interior promised so much. Maybe they’ve worked out their act since then, and I’d hope so because people still seem to flock there in droves. I suppose you can give it a try, but don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Grapeseed is the place you go when you want to get in, get out and have absolutely nothing eventful happen during that time. The service is just OK. The food is just OK(although they do have several gluten free options). The fitout is cute, and my companion on my last visit informs me their White Rabbit beer is great. A good spot to ponder a purchase on a mid-afternoon shopping trip, they have a rather tasty-looking selection of cakes too.

Like most cafes in Armadale, Grapeseed is overpriced, but considering the area, I wasn’t overly surprised. The actual premises itself is actually quite funky, not at all out of place on High St Armadale. The food is nice, there is lots of variety, and the coffee is good. To be honest there is nothing really wrong with this place at all, but it just doesn’t make me have to go back. The staff were nice, but not particularly enthusiastic. If you are looking for a place to sit down for a coffee in Armadale and you are not too fussed about prices or service, then this place is a good option.
