In the hidden away street near Toorak Station, Toorak Cellars is the perfect after work drinks locale. There is a great selection of «interesting» wines and beers on offer and all can be bought to drink in or take away. There are also 8 – 10 by the glass offerings to start the night off. They have also managed to include a few small tasting and share plates including a great cheese platter to accompany a evening wine. The rustic shared tables and warm European surroundings immediately transport you into Paris or Rome.

Toorak Cellars in an interesting little find indeed. obviously if one gets on or off at Toorak station, its not that hidden, but if you’re taking a shortcut or alternate route home by bike and are oblivious to it’s existence, its a cool find. This is is the place for gin fans! They have both the west winds gin, Hendricks, Tanquery plus before I went in, an unheard of gin named «Professor Cornelius Ampleforth’s Bathtub Gin.» This is one of the only places in Melbourne you can buy this, and the first place that I’ve seen it. Its whole batch individually steeped botanicals, no infusions or additions and happens to be quite good on the nose! I didn’t taste it, but I’m sure it would be great! There’s also a dicky’s flask filler sloe gin, which I’d be interested to try as I really like my sloe gins, indeed kind sir! They also have a great range of white wines– think better European Rieslings and some awesome Gruners, as well as some awesome red wines, which I didn’t get to investigate as I was distracted by the gins, the awesome whisky selection as well as other rad time spirits. Very helpful and friendly staffer behind the counter on my visit, who explained to me about Willie smiths organic apple cider from Huon Valley in Tasmania. There’s a few beers around here, including Sierra Nevada, but of course this place is also a sit in wine bar, with a big communal table and does coffees as well. So one can drink in store if they so wish. This place is also great if you want to escape the crap beers that appear on so-many shelves. One of the first places to be completely devoid of crappy products in any form, henceforth there is no mass market crowd pleasers here like the utterly intolerable Pure blond or such other beers. Great work.
