This fish and chip shop isn’t going to rock your culinary boat, but it has 3 things going for it. 1. Price. As Karene said, it’s crazy cheap, almost like when you were a kid and your parents bought $ 5 chips to feed a family of 6. 2. They’re open Mondays. If you aren’t routinely hit by food cravings this won’t make much sense to you, but as one who is afflicted I can tell you getting the fish and chip craving on a Monday is pants. It seems to be the offical chippy day off, so to find a place that’s open on Monday’s and isn’t too far away is pretty nifty. 3. The staff are awesome and hilarious. Super chatty, plus the lady behind the counter told me they’re closed for a few days to paint the shop ‘so when you come back you come back to a nice clean fresh shop’. Gotta love that. Oh, and ask them to go easy on the salt.

This is an OK fish and chips shop. Well, frankly, I didn’t really like the chips — overdone(and I prefer floppy chips, not cindered-to-a-crisp ones) and they were too salty. However, there were certainly a lot of them for the price I paid(a mere $ 2.50 worth). The fish was better and it was the same deal in terms of size — the serving was huge. It was also fattier and more heavily crumbed than what I’d prefer, with the crumbed coating of the fish being almost a meal in itself.(The fish inside was pretty decent.) What I liked about this place was the woman serving me was super-friendly. We had a chat for the ten minutes or so I waited inside for my food. The chairs and tables outside were filled up with a bunch of bloke types who looked like they enjoy their beer and footie, and I didn’t want to linger outside in case an interaction of the«How’s it goin’, love?» type started up. When they left, we took their table. They were surprisingly neat and even threw their scraps into the bin. Maybe it’s time for me to put my blokey-football stereotype to bed. Nah. It’s not that the food is awful, it’s just that there’s much better fish and chips around. Red Ocean Seafood at Red Hill comes immediately to mind.
