Have always loved this place and I love it even more now that they’ve built a nice courtyard area out the back that is fenced off from the road and big enough for prams. Another thing they’ve got going for them is a new fenced playground next door for the kids, so you can always grab a takeaway coffee and watch the kids too!

First tick — really good coffee(it’s Blackstar). Second tick — it’s super cute and has a bit of a kitschy vibe; there’s often a local artist with their work on display for sale on the walls too. Third tick — brekky menu is not too long but still has good variety(avo on toast, savoury mince & a breakfast burger are a few highlights). Fourth tick — it’s well priced and has a park next door, so if you want to go and sit outside if you’re there with kids(or friends with kids!) you can. Really rate Café Auchenflower and have been back many times with different group sizes for lots of breakfasts… it’s also pretty handy for a midweek takeaway coffee on the way to the office!

Up from Melbourne and looking for a place to grab a good coffee and a bite to eat. This is not far from Frew park a kids centre of awesomeness and so went for lunch. The food is great but the portions on the Small size. Call me crazy, but I kinda like a piece of toast for EACH poached egg. Not here. The little kids meal was good — drink, treat, apple and a sandwich but at $ 9 it’s a bit overpriced. Like most of the stuff is a bit over priced. I think if they dialed it back a buck or two it would be more popular — or added toast!

When I go out to eat I like to be served, or at the very least acknowledged by the wait staff. That’s kind of the point, right? I think Café Auchenflower missed the memo on this one. We visited on a Sunday morning; it was quite early, before rush-hour breakfast time. It appeared we were supposed to seat ourselves, so we picked a cute table in the corner. About 10 minutes later we were ready to order but the waitresses were yet to realise we were there. After trying to grab their attention multiple times, being ignored and getting rather frustrated my partner looked at me and said, «Shall we just cut our losses and go somewhere else?» But it was Sunday morning, I was tired, and I just wanted my coffee. So we stayed. I kind of wish we didn’t. Eventually, a waitress came over to take our coffee order, and we asked if we could order food as well. «Uh, sorry, I uh, can’t take food orders, I’ll get my colleague for you in a minute.» More waiting. And waiting. And waiting. Eventually ordered our breakfasts. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. The avo on toast with chilli was nice and spicy. Coffee was almost cold which was disappointing(but I was not game to attempt to order a new one with the waiting game that was occurring haha). I like Sunday morning breakfast to be a relaxing experience, and this was anything but! On a positive note, it’s a very cute space — it’s an old house that has been repurposed and even has a cute courtyard out the back!

Met here for ladies brunch on the weekend and was so impressed! My friend had recommended them for their avo toast and holy wow, so good. The full serve is literally a WHOLE avocado on super thick sourdough. I opted for a half serve plus bacon because they’ve got bloody big avos at the moment. Nothing was too much trouble for our waitress, the coffee was heavenly and it’s so darn cheap. Brekky, 2 coffs and a take home muffin for $ 22. So so impressed. Only downside is it’s super small and super popular so tricky to get a table. Definitely worth it though. Plus they have Mars bar butter with their banana bread. So there.

Food quality and serving size is below average. Not worth the trip.

My local café. My morning coffee. We tried this cute little café when we first moved across Brisbane months ago, and we practically inhaled the savoury mince it was that good. I’ve never tried it with avocado before either, but it was brilliant. The staff are friendly, too.

This café was a pleasant find. I had originally made plans to meet a friend for breakfast at a nearby café, as that café’s website stated it was open Sundays. We arrived to find that it wasn’t. A decision was made to walk to Rosalie, but we didn’t even make it more than a block before seeing the welcoming sign ‘open 7 days’. It’s al small café, but with only a few tables it feels bright roomy. It is also air conditioned, which is a bonus as we head into the nasty summer months. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Menus were already on the tables and they were trialling table service, which was executed promptly. Coffee was made well and the breakfast was filling, reasonably prices and well presented. I had the vegetarian breakfast of haloumi, tomato and spinach with toast. My partner had the mushrooms and we both had no complaints. A few flies buzzing around was the only frustration, but something that it difficult to avoid at this time of year. I look forward to going back and trying other options.

Serving Blackstar coffee(perhaps serving the best coffee in the area now), leavain breads and a simple home style menu including an all day breakfast, I’ve popped into Café Auchenflower a few times now. Granted, it’s mostly been for a sneaky take-away coffee but recently we stopped for ‘elvensies’ and the hummingbird cake was all you could want for a morning tea. This is a family-friendly café so if you have kids they’re more than catered for — 100s and 1000s on the kids cups and a drawing area for their imaginations to run amok. Should kids not be your thing, be prepared for the little rugrats to be, well, be kids — making noise, running around and burning energy. If you can deal with that then you’re in for a treat in a café that was once a dark and dreary looking antique store.
