Glick’s is actually one of the reasons I moved to Balaclava! When hanging out with my now housemate it was a weekend tradition, hang over or not, to head down to Glick’s and grab a bunch of everything bagels and a tub of baba ganoush and feast in front of the TV while we recovered from the wild night before. These bagels never disappoint, they are always fresh and consistently baked and will satisfy any cravings! Go and treat yourself and your tastebuds… They are that good!

Best bagels in Melbourne. Only other place I have had as good was in New York. The place is closed on Saturdays so make sure you get them on Sunday’s or during the week to get your fix! It can be really busy in Friday’s and the staff there are often less than friendly but it’s worth it. also sometimes they have a ticket machine working other times not so just be prepared to fight for your spot in line. Definitely order the everything bagels and get some garlic eggplant dip to go with it.

For anybody allergic to latex, you literally can’t eat here. They do not understand allergies here and if you for some reason can’t eat egg, there are virtually no brunch options here. Very disappointed

Good for Australia, definitely. The only place I will buy bagels here in Melbourne. But as a NYCer, please don’t be fooled, these are NOT as good. Having ‘been to NYC twice’ doesn’t really qualify oneself to be a true judge. The best NYC bagels are miles ahead, but Glicks is the best in Melbourne and will definitely do as a needed fill-in.

Easily the best bagels and challa. Try the rare sourdough bagel, blueberry, choc chip or the cinnamon and raisin. Ask for the lighter, less cooked ones. Unless you have to buy challa on a Friday, go on other days. Friday is crazy in there so you better have a good sense of humor and don’t mind waiting if you go. Open early and late which is always handy.

Many years ago now, I had decided to prepare for a friends party. Being super organised and forward thinking i went to Glicks. The best thing was that I was served by Mr Glick himself,(a rare treat) — he’s the guy on the bag, well the image anyway. Well on this day, things were nice and cheap, so I loaded up two gigantic bags on each arm, full of awesome Glicks treats. Suffice to say, the shop was almost cleaned out. Well tonnes of food later and only a mere $ 30, I was skipping along to my car in the side street. Nudging the central locking I opened the back door only, put the goods down, when temptation got the better of me. As I was wolfing down some Glicks awesomeness, I somehow dropped the car keys on the floor. Finishing up, i thought ‘right, time to go, and shut the rear door,(under the illusion the keys were still in my pocket) Imagine my panic when i have no keys, and can’t open the driver door. Somehow i had managed to keep it perfectly ajar between ‘dead closed can’t open’ and ‘open just a little bit.‘ Not only this, but now the Glicks baked good were locked in my car, with the car keys. I was frantic. Anyways after panicking and considering my options, I finally managed to get the door open some forty minutes later! Rewards inside! I grabbed the keys, did a dance of joy, ate some more, and drove off. Sometime later, I ended up at the party, with every permutation of bagel imaginable. But by this time, due to the stress, it was only 1.5 bags full. Upon my arrival, and seeing the haul, my friend said, «*Proverbial, «You only needed enough for 3 people not 30!» In the end we had a Glicks feast, and the end of the day was a happy one indeed. I must go back to try some more

Nothing more to say other than this is the best place you’ll find to buy traditional boiled bagels. New York City has nothing on this place and i’ve been there twice!

I have eaten bagels in NYC. They were great. I can also say having eating Glicks since I was a little girl, that these bagels are as good as, if not better than anything I’ve had in new york. This is the original glicks location, which has expanded over the years. Most people do come for the bagels, but if you’re there on a day when there’s challah bread, buy yourself a loaf. It makes the most divine french toast. Tip — don’t hit this place on a Friday afternoon. Glicks is a fully kosher eatery and it’s chaotic with people trying to prepare for the sabbath.

A very common argument amongst my friends and I is «Who makes the best bagels in town?» My answer is always going to be Glick’s! I must warn you though, if you walk into this place without taking a number you will find yourself ignoring all of society’s conventions and start screaming at a lady holding a baby saying that you were here first and I want my bagels. The person with the ticket will always win!
