Hands down best breakfast we’ve had in Melbourne. We had the brioche and the crispy eggs with ham, both came with lovely sides such as a crumb to give it great texture. The serving size was so generous we couldn’t quite finish it between two of us(and we have huge appetites). I used to live in this neighbourhood so it’s so lovely to know there’s such a fantastic café. Finally the service was so friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back.

This place is home to the best breakfast in Melbourne ladies and gents. That’s really all I need to write if you value my option, but some people might need a bit more persuasion. The crispy eggs at Mr H actually made my eyes roll back in my head. I called people on the phone after I finished eating to discuss it… so ya, it’s that good. The sweet potato purée is the perfect nest for the crispy fried poached eggs. The fresh cos lettuce salad with homemade ranch cuts through the luscious ham hock perfectly and the sliced sourdough toast is an excellent tool to tie it all in. I’m drooling just typing about it. I went back a second time, but made sure to but take my husband because I wanted to share the love. While he ate, I snapped a photo of him that is cringeworthy, but you can see the expression on his face while shovelling the remnants of a crispy egg that he is indeed in food heaven nirvana. I decided to get the brocolinni salad my second visit which was outstanding as well, really high caliber food and so healthy and fresh. My only, only complaint would be smoking outside on the patio. In 2016, and that is a huge turnoff while enjoying a coffee or a splendid meal. Love ya Mr Hendrix. Mrs Hendrix is a lucky lady

Nestled in leafy Balwyn, Mr Hendricks is hands down the most popular café on this end of Whitehorse Rd. Don’t let it’s tiny but cute appearance fool you. They have a bustling courtyard with under cover space as well as options to dine in the sunshine. Their menu will leave you torn between sweet and savoury as well as breakfast and lunch! Sip on Padre coffee while you make the tough decision. I’ll keep coming back till I get through the menu… Cheers Mr Hendricks!

Hands down one of the best cafes in the area. I go there as often as possible. Food is consistently great, service is efficient and friendly and the big courtyard is a lovely space. I have 3 menu favs — toasted French brioche, smashed avo and the crumbed eggs. Order one of those 3 and you can’t go wrong ;)

Amazing food and service only downside will be the huge lines on the weekend. So remember to book folks!

They have the best Chai Latte! The food is excellent too and I love the rear courtyard on a pleasant Melbourne day :)

Fresh food and fresh layout. Efficient and enthusiastic staff. Padre coffee is the house blend which can leave a little to be desired, as I prefer my long blacks quite bitter, but overall impressed. Very handy local eatery!

It was the Grand Final Weekend and at 9am on a Sunday I met up with a couple of girlfriends at Mr Hendricks. My bet is that people won’t be awake after the celebrations(?) last night and I was right. We got there and the place was busy but not full. We got led to the cosy indoor part of the room with 3 – 4 tables. I ordered a soy iced chocolate but it didn’t seemed to sit well with me. I wasn’t sure whether it’s cos it’s too sweet? Thankfully my avocado on toast with Wakame(seaweed), toasted sesame and green beans on sourdough more than made up for it. My dining companion had the famous brioche French toast which was huge! I would have ordered that as well but I didn’t like the caramel sauce that goes along with the pear. I was hoping that they would change to a more springy flavour by then cos it’s spring! But sadly no. That being said though, I did try a little bit of the French toast(without the caramel) and it was amazingly light and fluffy! Yum yum

After seeing countless Instagram posts and blog reviews about this place, I finally got around to trying it myself, despite it being a mere five minute drive from my house. Service is on point — there’s usually a wait during brunch/lunch hours on weekends, but the friendly waiter took down my name and number and promised me a table within 15 minutes. From start to finish, the service at Mr Hendricks was flawless and for that I commend them. Cappuccino was a little to weak for my taste but otherwise smooth and creamy. I ordered the Tempura Soft Shell Crab & Snapper Burger and my partner-in-crime got the Wagyu Cheese Burger. We vowed to order something other than burgers and soft shell crab for a change, but we just couldn’t help ourselves. Maybe it’s because I order the same thing every brunch joint I go to, but I was slightly disappointed by the Soft Shell Crab Burger in comparison to some of the others I have tasted in my lifetime. Next time we go again, we’ll make sure to order something from the brekkie menu… or just no burgers in general.

Great little neighborhood café with a creative menu! I ordered the crispy eggs and it did not disappoint. All the items of the plate complimented each other harmoniously! The eggs was crispy on the outside and beautifully runny on the inside. Also ordered the prawn and corn fritters which was also lovely. Had a latte to accompany my meal. Pros: super friendly staff; fresh ingredients; Cons: seating is limited and space is crowded.

Took us a while to get here from some really good word-of-mouth, but glad we eventually did, and have been back a few times since. Yet to circle in on a firm favourite — always torn between the breakfast and lunch menus too — but everything is great, service is good, and make sure you try to nab a seat in the courtyard to enjoy some of Melbourne’s summer weather while it lasts.

I have found a new local favourite. The menu was interesting and varied, and the surroundings warm and stimulating. The buttermilk chicken burger was outstanding, as were the crumbed eggs. Portion sizes were on the large size but more than manageable. Service was attentive and friendly. I can not wait to return, and try so many more items from the exciting menu.

Having opened early this year, Mr Hendricks is another great addition to the growing number of good cafés in Bawlyn. It’s nicely designed, with a small and intimate area in the front and a nice and spaced out area out the back, which is where was I sat for lunch because of how busy it was inside. On a summers day it would be beautiful out there, but it was a cold day, however the covers provided plus a good Padre coffee(from Brunswick) will made it not too unpleasant. On the menu is so many different types of dishes it’s hard to choose what you want! From the it I had the Crispy Eggs(is the the new avocado??) and Ham Hock, while others had the Beef Burger and the Pumpkin Soup. All were really good, with the Pumpkin Soup being the standout. Friends too have told me a number of times that the Soft Shell Crab burger is also really good! I would say though if your on a budget be careful, as from memory the main meals were around that $ 18 mark, and there are some better options in the area if that is the case. If you area happy to spend that though you’ll be well looked after that’s for sure!
