Beehive is a great café in Beecroft that I sometimes feel gets overlooked by the fact that it’s tucked away and not in direct sight of the railway station. Don’t overlook it though because it’s great! Juan and Sonia the owners are from Columbia(and happen to by my neighbours) and have worked hard to create a delicious menu that has a different take on the regular café fare. Their shining glory however is the Friday night Tapas menu. All the food is expertly prepared by Chef Sonia, the South American flare that they have put in the menu is delicious. Pork belly, empanadas, spicy prawns, there is nothing you won’t be able to find to whet your appetite. And if you’re not sure Juan will pick out a menu for you based on everyone’s different tastes. Service can get a little slow on Friday nights as it’s usually packed out, so you may need to be prepared for a long dinner. But with the right bottle of wine and the constant flow of delicious tapas that shouldn’t be a problem!

Not a hipster place, but popular with a more mature age group for lunch. I’m not a fan of crepes although my friend who is a local raves about them here. I enjoyed tortilla filled with chorizo, caramelised onion, coriander and gooey mozzarella cheese. Roasted capsicum & sour cream on top looked good & added to the taste sensation.

Average customer service provided from the start everything was hard work from getting the menus too getting coffee then a glass of water. The wait staff seemed that they didn’t want to be there as they were very disinterested in providing customer service except one man(I believe the owner) as he worked at 4 times the pace of the other staff. The food was average in taste as my wife ordered pancakes which had that commercial taste and were cold. I would have to consider if we would go back.

The Beehive Café is one of my favourite cafes in the Beecroft region. The menu has a different take on the usual menu choices which makes it very exciting. They are not open every night for dinner but they are open every Friday night for Tapas as well as dinner. Plus they have theme nights once a month and concentrate on a region, such as ‘Mexico Fiesta Night’ 29th June. On a diet? No problem as there are choices that are satisfying. I highly recommend giving the Beehive Café a go.
