Central Baking Depot is every BSB fan’s dream. Walls ensconced with Nick Carter’s face, Millenium played on repeat on Mondays… Haha jokes, you wish ladies, but close. Sister shop of Bourke Street Bakery, this joint has all the goodies that BSB sells but without the line. Perfect croissants? Tick. Delicious sausage rolls? Tick. Amazing potato, rosemary nigella seed sourdough? Oooooh yes tick! The shop is all white walls, blackboards and large panes of glass — definitely fit out for the Eastern Suburbs crowd. Being tucked out of the way from the crowds, it’s a great space to chill out with a book. The only fault(if you can even call it a fault) is the coffee. Not that it’s bad, it’s just not blow-your-mind amazing like everything else around it. But seriously, get the potato, rosemary nigella seed sourdough — only available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays but worth the wait. Oh wait, there is no wait — there’s no line…

For some reason this is a high turnover location for businesses– it’s kind of hidden so doesn’t get the passing traffic from Oxford St or Westfield… I think so many people decide to set up shop here because of the language school next door. But Central Baking Depot seems to be the only one in recent years to realise that students don’t have money! They’ve accordingly set up a nice affordable café-bakery and not only is the food cheap but it’s actually really good! They were awarded best café/bakery by the SMH Good Café Guide and their single origin coffee is the best I’ve had in Bondi Junction. The open shop-front is a pleasant place to watch the world go by before being assailed by shoppers in Westfield… or if you’re lucky pick up a foreign student!
