Never before have I walked into a café and felt so welcomed! The staff here are so so so friendly! Each and everyone of them! I am not one to venture very far out of my bubble, but upon meeting someone in box hill I may need to start a little more and well this café ticked all my boxes. Quick, friendly, efficient service. The meals were huge, I must admit the price was slightly steep which I found interesting considering how far out I was but again that could be the city snob in me. Creamy coffee, fresh juice and smiles smile smiles.

Red Cup Café is situated in a lovely position between Laburnum and Box Hill, but unfortunately after a few visits I don’t feel as if they make the most of it. The menu is ok, but for the prices that they charge and a quality you get it doesn’t quite match up. It is definitely passable food, but considering the quality other cafés throughout Melbourne are putting out there, it doesn’t quite cut it here. The coffee isn’t as good as you’d expect, especially when a small latte is over $ 4, and there’s no special care appeared to be taken with it. I’m happy to give places the benefit of the doubt when prices aren’t to high, but if you’re charging inner CBD prices, the quality better be up there. I say three stars as it’s definitely not the worst place out there, and in Box Hill there’s not too much better around. And both times have been served by friendly staff, which is very important. I guess it’s one of those places you’re happy to go to when someone suggests it, but perhaps look around when deciding to go there yourself.

Fantastic coffee, all the food is made in premise and fresh/organic. The service was so friendly and spot on. Highly recommend :)

Beautiful rustic pumpkin soup with cheese toast. Chai latte was good, unnecessarily large though! It was almost a bucket! The waiter was very uninterested and his attitude put us off a bit. The barista behind the counter predicted what the sex of my unborn baby was — apparently she is never wrong– well guess what! She was wrong! :) expecting a baby girl not a baby boy! Very irrelevant for a food review but it was funny nonetheless. Apart from our waiter the other staff were very friendly. Well priced for what it was.

Not a bad place in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Never been too much of fan of Box Hill because there is simply nothing there. After a good look around yesterday and even in the main shopping centre, I got a bit bored. I eventually stumbled across Red Cup and ended up sitting inside with a coffee for a good hour or so. Its Genovese coffee and they make it as good as anywhere else. I, personally, am not over the moon about Genovese coffee. A coffee is a coffee though and this one did the trick — keeping me awake. The place had a nice little selections of snacks and cakes etc. I didn’t get lunch here but saw some of the other customers with digging into nice looking meals. The staff are really friendly and are right in front of you a second after you get through the door. This is a good place, though there isn’t really anything that makes it stand out.

This place has been very busy both times I have been here, the décor is simple and there is seating both inside and outside. The service is friendly however can be slow when it is busy, when we were all there, it took 20 minutes to order. As it was cold, we sat inside and ordered a BUCKET of drinks. I got a bucket chai and my friend got a bucket latte then a smoothie which came in a retro red ladle! For food I had a baked eggs with bread and chorizo! Don’t get me wrong the food was good and it was served in a skillet but it was a very small portion. My friend got a zucchini fritter and the other a florentine. The food is good but small and the price is on the $$$ side, don’t think I will be going back because I simply don’t wish to pay $ 18.50 for the size of baked eggs I received. On that note though, there are very many regulars who don’t seem to mind. Update: Went back again using an entertainment voucher and was promptly seated by very friendly staff. Went in to order and asked while pointing to the muffins on display«what flavours do you have» and a response of «don’t touch them!» was snapped back at me followed by the flavours. This particular staff member has always been very snappy and always looks angry but everyone is friendly… aside from that: The coffee and chai this time arrived with burnt bubbly milk, the crumpets ran out however they replaced it was toast which was actually really yummy but the best part of the visit was the raspberry white chocolate muffin served warm with butter. All up the most recent visit cost $ 26.00 and I am glad I used the entertainment voucher as crumpets(salmon, spinach and 2 poached eggs) normally cost over $ 18.00 alone.

Pretty good coffee and good food. A touch pricy but wonderful otherwise.

This part of Melbourne is starved for good cafes — it’s a universe away from locations like Gertrude St or parts of Richmond, North Carlton etc. Personally I think it’s worth making the effort and going to Hamilton St Mont Albert or Maling Rd Canterbury — because the standards at this café are pretty low — and prices far too high. It’s popularity reflects the lack of competition nearby. Coffee is hit and miss, can be OK(but not great) depending who’s making it, but food is basic and costs too much.

I had a bit of a rocky start with this café. 11.30 on a Saturday not quite lunch but past brunch. The café wasn’t full yet still packed enough to keep staff busy. The front of house was quite abrupt which took me aback a little I was expecting a friendlier welcome than just«eat in or take away» which was the welcome I got. The tone improved when I informed her I would be eating in and was promptly seated. She won back a bit of respect after offering to get me a paper to read. Coffee order taken and Genovese beans on offer. Food arrived promptly and the floor staff were young but friendly. This is the end of my positive experience. After being informed of my table number I then waited longer to pay than consuming my meal did. The front counter area is clearly too small and being consumed by actual coffee preparation than serving the customers that wanted to pay. Waited for ever while floor staff looked bored. I had to bring it to the floor staff’s attention — That we were all waiting to pay. It was going to be a 4 star experience but I’m deducting a point for the service at the end and a point for their price tag. Extras like bacon should be $ 4.00 for two extra bits of bacon, $ 4.20 for standard beans and $ 5.50 for a muffin. I wish I was kidding.
