Anyone living in the Adelaide Hills knows there is no such thing as a typical sports ground, with varying extremes of size, surface, slope and shape. The Bridgewater Oval is one such extreme. Unfortunately for the people of Bridgewater, their oval is the subject of many an in-joke and internet meme. This mostly stems from the oval being underwater a few times during previous football seasons, and prior to that the stench that wafted up from the adjacent creek. The smell is now a thing of the past thanks to better waterway management upstream, however inundation after heavy winter rains remains a real threat to the oval and change rooms. Luckily for the people of Bridgewater, the Bridgewater Raiders Football Club have merged with the Callington Eagles(Bridgewater-Callington United Eagle Raiders?) which now means Football can be played out at Callington oval when Bridgewater gets too muddy, preserving the quality of the surface for use by the whole community.
