Sloppy. I hate writing this because I absolutely adore my local GyG and think the chain is actually pretty awesome, but there was no joy to be had when I visited this store. To begin with there was a little mix-up with the food, which I think was a language comprehension issue. It wasn’t huge, but when you miss a chilli nut’s fresh jalapenos, it causes great sadness. The biggest problem, however, was that the vegetarian burrito and hard tacos we ordered were seriously sloppy… as in dripping wet so that the hard(ha ha ha) tacos disintegrated(mmm, taco soup), and I almost bathed in the burrito it was so juicy. Quel mess! I have eaten a lot of GyG burritos in my time. This is not normal. Perhaps we just had bad luck. I don’t know, but I won’t be back. If you’re game to try it though, consider getting one of their loyalty cards. With each purchase you get points which you can then redeem for food and drinks. A free burrito washed down with a free Corona sure does feel good(as long as it doesn’t drip all over you). I invariably grab a burrito, but they also sell salads, enchiladas, quesadillas, soft and hard(if you’re lucky) tacos and other goodies available with all kinds of fillings, such as pork, chicken, beef, fish and veggie. Drinks include beer, cider, soft drinks and alcoholic slushies.

Again, a great joint found this am post breaky. Its as if the Brisbanites can’t do a thing wrong eating out wise to this point. Great food, reasonable price structure, typical Mexican fair. Nice open cosy little café. Friendly staff and prompt service. Enjoy

It’s one of those places that you can rock up before or after a couple of drinks. It’s pretty amazing! And there’s a Foosball table which is pretty great… the only problem is that you gotta rock up early at least try to find a team to play!

The food was quite good. I had two tacos and liked them a lot. However, I was surprised that they wouldn’t give me any tap water but made me but a bottle of water instead…

This place was a bit rough. I can’t tell if it is my high standards for mexican food or if they just had an off day, but I have to strongly disagree with Unilocal consensus here. Everything from the guacamole to the steak to the rice was odd and not particularly well combined. It reminded me of a particularly weird(and less delicious) chipotle in the U.S. I’d only recommend if you don’t have strong opinions about Mexican food and/or are in dire need of this particular cuisine.

The is a great find in Brisbane. Regardless where I travel I always make a point to find some Mexican food. I’ve had the tacos, burritos, nachos, and quesadillas here. For drinks they even have Jarritos brand soda. Corona and frozen margaritas are also available. It’s in a great part of town with lots going on. This location is open late, has a couple of foosball tables, and take away is no problem. If they took Amex I’d give 5 stars.

Walked into Guzman y Gomez from our hotel after a long day travelling. The atmosphere was fun and the menu great for its variety and how close to real Mexican food it was– black beans, hot sauces, brown rice option. Frozen margaritas welcome. The Columbian waiter was great. Will look for G&G in the future

I’m from Texas so I was hesitant to eat Mexican food in Aus. I was pleased to discover the food here to be excellent. Also they have authentic Mexican beer! We enjoyed the quesadillas the most. After dinner you can have fun playing foosball here as well!

Eek! So excited about Guzman y Gomez! Having just returned from a year in Central and North America I am still craving all thing Mexican. The Brisbane City store even had staff that allowed me to indulge in my(albeit woeful) spanish as I ordered off the somewhat limited(but customizable) menu. The food has a western twist — which is to be expected — but I would have loved to see more authentic regional mexican options on the menu… its not all bean burritos over there after all!

I got so excited to see this place as my husband and I were walking around to find a spot for lunch. We decided to take the chance… and I’m really happy we did. Guzman y Gomez completely had us from the moment we bit into our food; his burrito and my chicken tacos. I devoured my tacos so fast and was done before my husband finished, and this never happens! Also, the margarita had just enough vodka and was ice cold. I highly recommend the chicken soft tacos(all the ingredients were just so fresh) and inside legit corn tortillas and drink it down with a ice, cold margarita. Come to Gladstone!

Been craving Mexican and this place hit the spot! Reminds me of chipotle back at home– not the most authentic but does the trick when you’re backpacking around Australia! Coming from so cal though– definitely am spoiled but I really appreciated the abundance of sauces! Australia is known for charging for their sauces and so I was happy to sauce out to my hearts content!!!

Was it really a two star experience? Well, as it says. «Meh. I’ve experienced better.» The food was fine. Same as you get at every other GYG. Service was fine. But my drink was warm, and if you sit by the window you get choked by the cigarette smoke from all the smokers from the bar next door standing right outside. That said, it’s very roomy inside, with a couple foosball tables you can sit at too, which is kinda cool. Plenty of intimate tables for two or large group tables too, which is nice. Really it loses marks for the smoke billowing in the window, the warm drinks and the stools. Incredibly uncomfortable metal stools. Go for one of the normal chairs if you can.

I came to Brisbane at a really sad time for restaurants as the good ones that I had bookmarked or either a few ones that I wanted to try were closed. This left me with no choice but a handful of fast foods joints or a few franchises. However I am well familiar with GYG as I have been to a few of their branches in Melbourne. Pro tips: Get the spicy chicken/beef Guerrero tacos. They were fresh, tasty, all in a generous portion. They also have what is known to be the Mexican version of the coke variety and I have to say that is an understatement as I have found their Jarritos mandarin to have a much better consistency in the sugary, salty or all those unhealthy flavours when compared to coke. Plus this chain occupies a larger space than any other I have seen and there are more than enough tables and cabinets where you can enjoy your food.

Brisbane isn’t known for their vast choices in Mexican food so I’ll honestly take what I can get. Coming from San Francisco, I’ve had some of the best burritos ever made. Honestly, if Guzman y Gomez was located anywhere else, it would probably only get 2 – 3 stars from me but in Brisbane, this place is the best they have to offer. I came here and ordered a steak burrito for around 10 dollars which is quite pricey. The burrito was quite thin and was lacking a few ingredients. However, the service is great and the restaurant is clean and has a great feel to it. Everyone is polite and there is plenty of seating(even though it does it quite crowded at night). Overall, great place to come to if you’re craving Mexican food in a place.

I’m pretty much a brand ambassador for these guys. Except they don’t pay me. And umm, I pay them. And umm… okay, so I’m just a glutton and love just about everything they do. On the go? Smash a mini burrito. Time to sit for a while? Choose some tacos and make sure you get lots of coriander, jalapenos and hot sauces to pimp them out. I love that this is fresh, relatively healthy and tasty fast food. No you probably don’t want to come here on a date, or special occasion, but if you’re in the mood for easy and casual and don’t want to spend a motza then it gets my tick of approval.

I really hate to be that person giving this joint a mediocre review, but to me the food here was only average. The service was friendly however greeting people with«Hola» which is certainly a nice touch. I ordered the Chicken Quesadilla and a random order of Kid Nachos out of curiosity. Chicken Quesadilla was quite tasty however I’ve definitely had better growing up in California for all of my life. I have the say that the Kid Nachos were seriously a joke. Granted I wasn’t expecting much out of those nachos to begin with however after seeing them put a slob of cheese which was only partially melted and your standard nacho chips I was disappointed. If I was a kid I would not feel happy about eating that at all. For Australia this might be good Mexican food, however if you want real authentic Mexican I strongly suggest to look elsewhere.

You see I lived in Texas for two years. My first two months I kept feeding myself with mexican or tex-mex food. Then I overdid it and I pretty much refused mexican unless there was a special occasion. Now I moved to Brisbane few months ago and I crave for a good burrito! One of my co-workers introduced me to GyG one day. That was it! I mean, yes. I’ve had way better. Yes, it was bigger and way cheaper, but mind you, it was in Texas(and everything is bigger in Texas). But as for ‘stralian terms, the burritos are very good! The closer to the noon you arrive, the busier it gets. I usually get there around 11.30am — it’s reasonably NOT crowded and I don’t have to wait long for my order. I prefer to have it in there over take away — I tend to get the sauce from my burrito all over me. You have a choice if you want to have normal or brown rice — I like that a lot, at least I THINK I eat a little bit healthier! There is also an option for a mini burrito if you’re not THAT hungry, or simply normal size burrito is too much for you — my first few times I ordered A burrito and never finished — until someone finally told me they actually have an option for people like me! They have plenty of tables, and they do have smaller tables too, so if you’re up to have alone-lunch and sushi-to-go is not good enough, GyG should work pretty well! Prices are very reasonable, I usually fit in less than $ 10 for a mini burrito and a drink. Happy lunches! The staff is really nice too — they will welcome you with ‘Hola!’ — I know everybody can say that. But I think it’s a nice addition to the whole thing. I never wait long for my food, they are pretty efficient(altho I struggle with the time counting when I read, so it might actually be long, only I don’t notice that.). They also have beer and frozen margaritas — unfortunately I always come during lunch, so never tried the drinks. One day… They take cash and credit cards. Easy as that! It’s located in the town centre, very close to Queen Street mall. I’m deffo a regular. Nice place to grab a quick lunch.

Just stopped in for a quick bite before the movies. Yum! Veg nachos was fresh and clean with lots of different flavours. Guacamole, salsa, black beans and corn chips. I ordered half cheese and extra guacamole($ 2). Bonus… everything is gluten free except the burritos — they recommend you try the burrito bowl if you avoid gluten. Fast, fresh and yum. Counter reminded me of McDonalds, but the friendly ‘hola’ banished any reservations. Only complaint was the music was cranked. Other than that, awesome place.

I love a good burrito. Yummy spices, rice and beans, and a margarita are all sure fire ways into my heart. While nothing beats an authentic feast at a big Mexican restaurant; Guzman Y Gomez certainly provide a fix for that craving that is fast, fresh and can be accompanied by a beer! I stopped in here for lunch while at work the other day to find a line up to order and almost all the tables full. I had a serious craving so I decided to wait in line and eat back at my desk. Before I even had time to decide between spicy chicken or spicy bean, I was at the front of the line placing my order! Was pleased to learn that lunch orders can get a can of soft drink for only $ 1. Awesome. My burrito was made fresh and in my hand very quickly and in my belly a short time after. A quick look on their website shows that you order online so it’s ready to pick up when you get there! Well played, GYG.

This Chipotle Monster has had constant cravings for Chipotle and was going through withdrawal, so I started making my own carnitas and chicken burritos, but some days I’m too lazy. And some days, I just want my good ol’ faithful Chipotle. My frequent trips to Chipotle before coming to Australia has put me in miserable times upon arriving here in Brissy. I had to stop pining and settle for less, but I was quite pleased to find that a Guzman y Gomez opened up in the city(on top of its Wintergarden location). Not a restaurant, but not quite fast food, Guzman y Gomez has become one of my favorite ‘cheap eats’ in Brisbane, even if it’s not quite authentic Mexican food [but then again, neither is Chipotle]. It’s got a similar feel, with a super-casual ambience, and the occasional serenade and guitar. There is a choice of their marinated steak, chicken, pork, and baraumundi(and veggie), which can come in a burrito, taco, quesadilla, nachos, or salad form, which is quite similar to the menu at Chipotle [minus the assembly line]. Their meats are marinated and grilled, and are indeed quite tasty! I usually go for a Chicken Guerrero burrito($ 10.5), as tacos are a bit too messy for me, but the burritos also come in mini-sizes($ 6.5)! All 768 Calories(3,209Kcal) includes the meat with their pico de gallo, black beans, rice, and cheddar cheese, with guac that comes at an extra cost of a dollar. The service is always friendly and quick, and on weekdays the canned|bottled drinks are $ 1 during lunch hours! I see a dangerous addiction possibly coming on for this Monster… Uh-ohs!
