Not a lot of lingerie when I was there but great, helpful staff.

I needed a costume for a concert, and figured — why not try 1950’s this time?
Let’s start with the staff — they actually knew who Amanda Palmer is! So my adventure there started with a vivid discussion with one of the ‘Kittens’ about AFP latest video and about how awesome she is. Yup — that got me. I was all theirs. Ladies working there are amazing! Very attentive, they will come over and check if clothes you’re trying look good or not, they will give you tips and tricks too.
And the clothes! Oh, the beauty of vintage clothes. I love that style. The dresses are really pretty, well made and, oh did I mention they are pretty much one-​of-​a-​kind? All Australia made, most of the dresses are made in small quantities. There are tags on my skirt and vest saying that these are 18 out of 80 pieces that have been made! If that doesn’t make it even more special, then what does?
The store itself is lovely — plenty of space to wander around, attentive staff ready to help you when in doubt, the fitting rooms with huge curtains and beautiful racks — boy oh boy, I felt like I’m a star!
As for the prices — yes they are quite expensive. But as I said — they are all hand picked and made, almost one of a kind, and made out of really good quality materials!
I was lucky to get a free leather hand bag too! (when I visited them, they had a sale — if you spend $ 300+ you get one)
Love, love and once again love. I am going back, even if only look at the dresses and have another chat about my favourite singer.

One thing potential customers should know about Kitten D’Amour is that the store also offers a small smattering of mod-​style clothing by designers who sell their wares online.
I discovered this one day when I spied in the window a gorgeous fitted red dress I’d seen online at
. Those who want to pick up Kitten’s mod-​inspired range might find it cheaper on the net — though of course you don’t have the benefit of trying on the outfit first.

Feminists of old would roll over in their graves if they knew that there was a store in Brisbane that sells clothes that bring stale ideas of «women belonging in the kitchen and bedroom» into mind. I did grimace when I first walked in here. The place is powder perfect. The girl at the counter is wearing a corset and a tiny frou frou hat singing a very cute version of «All I want for Christmas is you».
The best way I can describe the clothes is to say it’s Suzy Homemaker meets burlesque. Naughty and Nice. We’re talking lace, floral print, bows, tassles, the whole kit and kaboodle. The clothes are beautiful actually– they just drum up ideas of traditional femininity that I’m not hugely comfortable with.
It is a great place to come if you’re looking for well made, unique corsets. There’s no tacky, pvc, rubber element to any of the sexier clothes– it’s all quite demure and tasteful. Pretty, even. I imagine this place is also a hot spot for those into your burlesque and rockabilly scenes.
Go in, take a look, and indulge some private fantasy where you are the scantily clad burlesque girl in the champagne glass.

As a gal who loves vintage,
places like Kitten D’Amour make me very chuffed indeed.
It’s refreshing seeing a modern brand take a reflective look
into the past and bring about some truly unique clothing.
Definitely vintage inspired,
the range in-​store channels the luxury and excess of an
18^th century french boudoir. (Think alotta lace, polka-​dots, sheer and corsets)
Having met the head honcho Nigel,
you can really see the passion that goes into producing the Kitten D’Amour line.
Every single piece is classed in a collection,
with a small run on each design it’s guaranteed to keep each style unique.
(In fact a new «Story» is added to the boutique every 10 days.)
I am a huge fan of their stockings and super sweet cardigans,
but what I’m really impressed with the staffs dedication.
Very knowledgable and friendly they make this burlesque style
look effortless to pull off.
A definite must see if you are city side.

Walking into this shop, I almost expected to see Dita Von Teese performing a strip tease in a gi-​normous champagne glass.
In fact, this could be the burlesque babe’s dressing room. From the corsets, polkadot swing skirts, pearl necklaces with diamanté bows, garters, pencil skirts, tassled lamps, antique style armchairs, lace embossed-​peep toe heels, vintage style clutches, boudoir styled dressing rooms, the 1940s swing soundtrack — it’s a like a retro-​tastic dream.
The staff, although absolutely stunning and dressed in the store’s finest pieces, are super helpful rather than snooty, and seriously enthusiastic about the brand.
I found out that each piece of clothing is limited edition, and has a number on it stating how many were made and what number they were at (e.g. a dress I looked at said it 40 out of 60) so I’d have been the 40^th person to own it. In the world. (The store is also online so fans internationally can buy into the retro glam of this label).
The majority of the clothing is hand-​made in Brisbane, but they’ve just taken on some overseas tailors too (who apparently work with Dior! How dreadfully chic)
Dressed smart/​casual in a black and white tuxedo jacket, skinny jeans and a statement necklace, I felt frumpy surrounded by such awe-​inspiring glamour.
Not that it’s put me off. This is officially my new favourite (fashion) hangout. And next time i’ll just dress up.

Kitten D’Amour is a little bit of old school glamour tucked away in the city. I love walking into this shop just to browse and day dream about what it would be like to be a pin-​up girl, femme fetale, 1940s or 50s actress, or just plain classy. The outfits in this store range from the raunchy burlesque corsets and garters, to ultra sexy figure hugging pencils skirts and dresses.
The staff are friendly and look so beautiful wearing Kitten D’Amour outfits that I want to take their pictures. They are quite happy to just let you browse as well. The prices are not cheap but for the quality of the garments you get very appropriate. They also stock a great range of accessories. I bought a beautiful pair of black satin gloves with a diamanté detail on the wrist which I just adore. It makes me wish that I had more places to go to where satin gloves was appropriate attire. Kitten D’Amour has to be one of the prettiest stores I have been to in a long time and I totally recommend at least sticking you head in for a look at this very unique shop.
