Mick O’Malleys Irish Pub

Big place down in a basement, very touristy. They do a decent pour of Guinness and have a large selection of taps but as I have seen in Australia, mostly no seats at the bar itself which is weird. I wanted a little grub so ordered the house made spring rolls with pork. There were three only about this size of a small taquito and tasted like they were frozen from the grocery store. $ 16.00 which was a rip off. They had a live guitar player from Ireland playing who was real good. But I will leave this place to the tourists.

Decent irish pub, pretty good Guinness pour. Prices were reasonable. The music and band late at night were amusing, but not what I’d call good by any means :)

Great place to have lunch! Solid pub food, lovely atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. I’ve eaten there many times and been happy every time. Pro-​tip: to avoid crowds on a Friday lunchtime, book and ask to be seated in the Whiskey Bar, which is a part of the restaurant that many people seem to forget exists and is very quiet and peaceful.

Mick O’Malley’s is the sort of place everyone seems to walk past and ignore its existence. Situated right next to Wintergarden, the stairway adjacent to the green door leads down to the dark and cosy pub. They have a good selection of beers on tap as well as cider and more drinks in bottles. This was the second stop on our round the world in Brisbane adventure and fittingly we had a pint of Guinness.
The set-​up is a main bar for all of the drinks, and then a small side bar/​window to order food which will then be brought out to your table. We shared a bowl of the House French Fries which we surprisingly good and a pleasant accompaniment for our ale.
The atmosphere was really relaxed and quiet early on a Tuesday afternoon with some tunes from before you were born playing in the background.
They also have a pokies room which had a few undesirables and grannies hanging around which leads to me to think they only have the machines there to increase their day-​time trade? You can walk straight past without realising it’s even there nonetheless.
Final thought: Good drinks, food and service. A pretty good spot in the city for a quiet afternoon drink, lunch and/​or catch-​up with a friend.

Awesome venue to watch great music. Just went and saw the farewell show of Strings for Ammo. The crowd was fantastic and the venue was pumping with great energy. I’ve never ordered food but several dishes passed that looked pretty tasty.
Drink selection is huge and they have some wonderful ciders to choose from as well. There is also a whisky bar inside that you could easily miss if you aren’t looking.
There is a lot of space and if you want to watch sports, you have that option as well. It’s a great place to go in the city that has good music and good drinks. I plan on trying food out next time.

Ohhhh bless this place. I’m not the sort of person who frequents pubs often and not usually on a weekend, but I have such a soft, fuzzy, nostalgic love for O’Malleys.
My last job was literally a hop, skip, and a jump from O’Malleys so it was our go-​to place when we wanted a sneaky beverage after work. And it’s the perfect setting for after-​work drinks. On any given day of the week, there is always a crowd of rowdy guys chanting some unintelligible nonsense or singing along to the latest Irish lark, and it’s fantastic. You can hum along to Galway Bay or Big Strong Man and it makes you feel like you’re in a pub on the Irish moors. It’s brilliant.
Whenever I’ve run into Irish guys in Queen Street Mall — which, strangely, is actually fairly often — they always ask where O’Malleys is. Always. And it’s not even rundown or dingy like some other pubs. The furnishings are quite nice and well kept, and there’s a lot of wooden detailing that is just lovely. Plus booths. I love me some booths in a pub or restaurant.
The poor place got a little lost in the woodwork during the Wintergarden refurbishment but it’s back and causing as much ruckus as ever.
They do have bouncers on the door, but you can never tell when; their timing is a little unpredictable. But seriously, O’Malleys is great for a cheeky drink with no pressure. Perfect for after work of if you want to fly under the radar.

O’Malleys has the cheapest GOOD steak in just about all of Brisbane. It’s fantastic for a weekday lunch in the city whether you’re working or not. They just recently renovated so the whole place looks great inside and it’s almost classy. It still looks like your typical Irish pub but has a much more modern feel and is more open and airy than the narrow, congested hallways and seating areas of the old O’Malleys.

Mick O’Malley’s is nothing special if you ask me. I would not call it an Irish pub but more of an Irish themed pub as it has a very inauthentic feel to it. But at the end of the day, if you want an afternoon drink, it is not too bad of a place.
This pub takes place in a basement and I must admit, the decorators have done a good job at making this basement look like an Irish pub. What O’Malley’s lacks is that presence that old pubs have; that dirty musky smell that only years of pub shenanigans leaves behind. I feel weird complaining about how clean and non-​smelly this place is since I usually like that in a place, but for Irish pubs a bit of dinginess is required.
Pub dinginess aside, O’Malley’s is situated in a perfect location in the city to meet up with friends after work. It is pretty spacious and has amble room for groups. The service is pretty quick and you should not have too much trouble finding a table.
All in all, O’Malley’s is a descent pub thanks to its location and size.

For some reason i always seem to head to Irish pubs when no one can make a decision of where to go. They always have something for every one it seems and no matter where you are they are always quite similar inside and out.
Mick O’Malley’s is no exception to this. Its on the busy Queen street mall strip and i must say its size did surprise me some what. The door and the outside façade looks quite small but when go down the massive staircase into the pub its quite impressive.
The food is good and you have all the usual pub grub. The chicken wings were a personal favorite of mine because they are covered in sauce that it just the right amount of spicy. Its a good place to have a chilled out drink and watch some live sport.
