After wanting to drop in and check out Mr Claude’s for the past couple of weeks I finally made it in there this morning. The café has a cool vibe to it, with equally cool staff. There is a small selection of sandwiches available for lunches, some sweet treats(read — chocolate and cake balls!) right near the register(very dangerous when ordering), as well as some simple offerings for breakfast. The café also has a doorway into Corbett & Claude(Mr Claude’s big brother), so don’t be deceived by the small space in Mr Claude in the mornings. Today, my mission was only to get coffee, so I can’t honestly comment on the food at this stage except to say that I’ll be back to try it out at some point. The coffee is excellent! And well priced($ 4 for a large). So it’s certainly worth the trip. The only down side is it’s just a little too far from my work to make it a habitual coffee haunt for me… but I think on those days when I have more time I’ll certainly be heading back here. One other tip from the girl behind the counter — they put the chocolate(ie those sweet treats I mentioned earlier) into their hot chocolates! Sounds like yet another thing to come back to try.

Good Morning, Mr Claude. Aren’t you just a dashing new addition to the CBD with your polished concrete floors, white walls, and All Press coffee? I’m glad I took a little time this morning to get to know you and your quick-as-a-button breakfast menu. My breakfast bowl(yoghurt, fresh fruit and granola) was the light healthy start to the day I needed and paired with a long black, I perched at the long communal table and felt right at home. Add in your collection of magazines worth reading(hello, Fête Press) and it’s Game. Set. Match. Let’s take it to a second date where you show me your full restaurant and bar menu for a lunch time rendezvous? Tip: This new spot is already earning lines out the door for take-away coffees. Don’t let that line deter you. It moves at lightening speed!
