Proof that I’m a sucker for a menu drop, after seeing the flyer for Midway Chinese in my letter box, I was willing to give it a go! Although they offer delivery for a small fee of $ 3, I decided to call in my order and then go and pick it up. We ordered a serve of garlic lamb, hot and sour beef and cashew chicken and was told that it would be a 10 — 15 minute wait. I arrived at the somewhat dingy looking store right on time and was surprised to see that it looked more like a fish and chip shop than a chinese take away — you know, with the grills and the deep fryers in an open kitchen out the front? A big blackboard style menu above the kitchen and video games in the waiting area? And even fish and chip shop style options on the menu(including burgers!) Odd… but I couldn’t let that cloud my judgement. After establishing that they didn’t accept card(of any variety) I luckily worked out that I actually, for once, had cash on me! I grabbed my order from the friendly assistant and headed home. We’d cooked our own rice so once that was ready I dug on in — and it was damn good! The veggies were crisp and really fresh tasting and the meat was tender and flavoursome in all three dishes! The serves were big too — between three of us(two being very hungry males) there were actually left overs! For only $ 30 — including the prawn chips that I just HAD to buy when I saw them, the value was certainly there! Although not THE closest Chinese take away to our house, I certainly will be back! I’ll just have to remember to make sure that I have cash on me!
