Nestled down a little side street in Brunswick you’ll find an absolute treasure of a café! Lux café sets the scene in an old school wool factory where they have combined polished cement floors, beautifully exposed brick and rustic wooden furniture. The quality of the food is outstanding and the smashed avo with thick cut bacon and poached eggs is a must!

This will forever be a Brunswick favourite. The staff are lovely, the food is gorgeous and comes out quickly, they are wonderfully accommodating to whatever your needs may be. Breakfast and lunch are served all day, favourite dishes are the breakfast super salad, the big breakfast, the hot cakes with poached pear and ricotta, baked eggs… pretty much everything on the menu is delicious. Do yourself a favour and pay Lux a visit. The coffee alone is worth it!

While Lux seems to be hugely popular with the locals, we make it a point to drive out to visit as it’s just that great. The service is fantastic and they always have some amazing specials that makes choosing a breakfast option so hard! Portion sizes are amazing, the coffee is SO very good and we only wish it were our local or we’d be there every weekend! The outdoor area is really popular and dog friendly. It’s honestly one of Melbourne’s best!

I struggled to rate this place. I have rated it up a star due to the service, location and my partners meal. I’ll start with the bad. My meal was a little on the boring side. I got the arancini balls. It came with 4 balls on top of dry mixed salad leaves and pesto on the side. The pesto and rice balls were amazing. The salad was sad and dry. A little dressing and this dish would of been a star! My partner on the other hand had the lamb cous cous salad. Perfectly cooked and fantastic flavours! Not a complaint. Our juices were fresh and large which was a nice change. The service was 5 star! We sat outside as it was a beautiful day. Unfortunately after we ordered a rather rude and loud couple sat next to us and started smoking. We asked to move inside and without question everything was picked up and moved with a smile! Outside is fantastic and great for groups. If you want a quieter meal just find a 2 seater off to the side. Mixed review but I think it depends on your choice of meal.

This is my local fav place for breakfast! I have the same thing nearly every time but it always amazing. Muesli with poached pears and strawberries is my go to! Friendly staff and a cool atmosphere.

Lux is a great go-to place in the heart of Brunswick. It’s in a very stylish building tucked away behind Anstey station. The menu is extensive and has lots of good veggie options. There are brunch classics like eggs benedict as well as unique combinations like crispy poached eggs with coriander. The service is great and the coffee is yummy. There’s also a lovely large outdoor area when the weather is nice.

I’ve been coming here since it opened as I live a dog walk away. Lux foundry is on a site previously occupied by Chef and this historic building was hidden behind a fence for many years. With the site being developed for high density housing, the original ‘Foundry’ was retained. Such a long intro but much of my custom of this place has to do with proximity, attractiveness and the large front ‘plaza’ providing an alternate eating area which is dog, bike, pram friendly. My usual visit involves having a coffee, 9/10, a sit in the sun and reading the paper. Free wifi is also available for those who suffer withdrawal symptoms from their digital world. Occasionally I will have breakfast here, which in my case is always the muesli. Delicious, with poached pears and strawberries and sustains me for many hours. When meeting friends here a muffin may appear, the chocolate chip one seeming to have more chip than muff! Staff are friendly and usually attentive though on occasion I have sat outside for over 10 mins before being noticed. Not a major quibble and I do have legs to take me inside. Just a tip, weekends is choc a block especially if there is a hint if sun, so make your visit early or be prepared to squeeze in if your party is over 2.

Sitting just behind one of Brunswick’s train stations sits Lux Foundry, the warehouse converted café with dynamic front court yard. It’s hard to concentrate on the food when your eyes are busy wandering around the venues interior, but when you do you won’t be disappointed. The menu is delish, with nothing too extravagant, and the coffee is good too!

I second what Emilie said about the vegetarian food here. I ordered the veggie panini and was really disappointed: The portion was quite large but it was a total grease bomb. The sandwich was crammed with pepperonata and zucchini but all I could taste was oil which totally overwhelmed the mild cheese and made the sandwich taste bland and blah. Coffee was ok, but not good enough to make up for a lackluster meal. A great architectural space with a lot of promise but I found the fit out to be a bit passé. The main clientèle seems to be yummy mummies from the area and the look of the place certainly reflects that. Lux Foundry is trying to be a bit hip but just doesn’t get there.

Awesome fit-out. I love it. Plus an outdoor bit too. Great breakfast menu. Yum yum yum! Does get busy on the weekends just beware, but worth the wait!

This café is across the road from where I get my car fixed, and l always look at it and think, «thats a really pretty café». I finally visited & it is really pretty! I was a bit disappointed in the chai latte– too milky for my taste & the food was just average. I suppose I had high expectations because the outside was so nice, but the vegetarian dishes just aren’t as exciting as the meaty ones here.

My expectations were low as my wife selected this venue for its kid friendly ratings. There were quite a few kids, all of whom appeared to be having a good time, but don’t let that deter you if you are searching for a good meal. The vibe, the staff, the customers, even the kids were all friendly and it was a little on the loud side, but my wife and I easily managed fluid conversation across the table. In a casual mood, we both ordered sandwiches and a side of chips. Both our meals came with a simple and enjoyable side salad of lettuce, rocket, tomato, and feta with a simple vinaigrette. My sandwich was a roasted lamb shoulder, bread and butter pickle, and cheddar panini, while my wife had a pumpkin, cheve, and greens panini. Any criticism I could make would be nit-picky, the sandwiches were rustic and satisfying. The lamb was soft, the pickles sweet, and the cheddar was sharp but not so much as to pull it out of the background to compete with the min ingredients, instead providing a nice backdrop with the roll. It was sort of like an Australian answer to a Cuban roast pork sandwich, I actually want another one just sitting here writing about it. The chips were crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside, evenly cut, correctly salted, though far more enjoyable than I am clinically describing them. The aioli was, a little flat. The texture was spot on, but it just lacked a good pop of garlic… this is me being more critical than I should be as we did finish of our serve and enjoyed it. It wasn’t a spectacular anything, that doesn’t seem to be what Lux Foundry is about. It was comforting, satisfying, casual, and just an excellent meal to enjoy with family(or friends). The portion sizes were generous, everything was clean, service was prompt and professional(in addition to the aforementioned friendly), but I will criticize their«no alterations» policy when I asked if it would be possible to have a little dijon added. The pricing was quite good, less than $ 40 out the door.

Lux is a nice-looking place, and promises a lot, but doesn’t quite deliver. Coffee is OK, service is erratic, it’s pretty crowded on a weekend, the music is loud enough to be irritating. In short looks good, but looks are sometimes deceiving.

This, in my opinion, is the most consistently good café in the Brunswick area. The coffee is usually pretty great, very rarely just ok, and the food is just plain wonderful. Favourites on the menu are the Slow Roasted Roma Tomatoes(amazing), the Big Breakfast(pretty fantastic), the Grilled Field Funghi(amazing) and the Smoked Salmon(delicious). There are always some pretty wonderful sounding things on the ever-changing specials board, too. The place can get pretty busy at times, so it might be worth giving a call ahead if you’re planning on a meal with a large group but it’s pretty safe to turn up before 9:30 on weekends and expect a free table for 2 – 4 inside or one of the bigger tables(seat 6 – 8) outside. I’ve never had to wait for a table. The staff are always very friendly and attentive(without hovering around asking if everything is alright every 2 minutes). Service is consistently quick without seeming rushed — all of the dishes are presented well so they look almost as good as they taste. Well worth a try.

Cruising down the Upfield bike path on your people powered two wheeler, in a gap in the industrial walls many spy a strange brick building that looks like it once held a laboratory or mad refinery of sorts. Not any more, as the tables and chairs outside reveal it has been transformed into a café and eatery. Serving good coffee and above average meals, this is place to be for a good sandwich or salad and an afternoon to spare. The sunshine is great outside for those wanting to waste a few hours, or even a peak inside at the madball photos of what once was there.

Located off the Upfield Bike Path, Lux Foundry is an amazing architectural space that brings together grunge and sophisticated design. I’ve wanted to come here for some time, but found going to Brunswick difficult. However, one day I made a conscious decision to go here and I was pleasantly surprised. Lux Fondry is a brick building with glass doors that add a modern twist to an old heritage listed site. Inside, Lux Foundry keeps it simple with polished cement floors and thonet chairs. It’s a spacious venue with a huge courtyard. The best part about the courtyard is that tables aren’t crammed next to each other and allows for some private conversations. On the menu are your usual brunch options including benedict, porridge, baked eggs, and big breakfast($ 14). They also have a lunch menu. I had the eggs benedict and it was delicious. The eggs were poached perfectly and the hollandaise was not too buttery in taste. The only issue I had with it was the use of toast over English muffins. I love English muffins. The coffee was good and the service great. Too bad it took me so long to discover this place!
