2nd visit. They have very nice spicy fish soup. Don’t like the spicy dan dan noodle. Can only taste the chilli and nothing else. Most of patron ordered their pig trotter.

We have lived in Burwood for 8 months. On average we have been to this restaurant every week! Love going in after a hard day at uni! Great place! The service is crap! But the food and price is fantastic!!!

This place is dangerously close to my work and I have had many an afternoon food coma because of it! The dumplings are always fast, fresh and super tasty. I’ve not had better vegetarian dumplings anywhere else. The shallot pancake is outstanding(although it always tips me from full to hurting, its so worth it!). The crowd is mostly uni students and the décor is to be expected but nothing detracts from the happiness in my mouth when eating here. I have been countless times and always can’t wait to return! They have BYO and take away frozen dumplings — some nice touches.

Good, cheap reliable dump-a-dump-dumps. Taste isn’t going to knock your socks off across the room, but it might roll them down a little. Service is standard for cheap Chinese take-out — be prepared to ask twice or thrice for chilli or table water — but you can anticipate that going in, and can somewhat forgive them considering it appears to be pretty busy at most times of the day(being right near Deakin Uni it seems hungry students eat whenever they can between classes.) Only real complaint is that unlike many other places they don’t have different serve sizes for their dumplings(like 8 piece and 15 piece options, etc). This isn’t a problem when eating with a group — works a charm then — but if dining solo or for a couple this may present an issue if you’re like us and want to try a few dump dishes to mix up the tastes but end up with wayyyy too many on your hands.(Sure you can take your leftovers home, but unlike say pizza, I don’t find dumps to be as good/better the next day). Too many dumplings… what a problem to have. Woe is me, I know. Ultimately if you have eaten here chances are you work or study at Deakin or live around the area. You’re probably not going to make an exception to travel out here just for Taste, but if you’re already in the hood here you can do a lot worse.

I really like this place! There’s not a lot going on with the décor — some red trimmings as per the norm in a Chinese restaurant. The food is cheap and cheerful — the steamed vegetable dumplings are scrumptious and(I’ve been told) the pork, prawn, and chicken are all top notch as well. We always order a shallot pancake too, just to keep ourselves humble. The service is fine — no gold stars, but no complaints either. It’s located down the road from Deakin Uni, so undoubtedly a hot spot for students.(Also a hot spot for 20-somethings on their way home from work and too lazy to cook something nutritious for dinner… whoever they may be…)

I had a hard time deciding on what star rating to give ths place. I’m at a stage in my life where I don’t put up with crappy food. But once upon a time, I was a struggling uni student with a shoestring budget. While now, I would give this place two stars, as that starving and poor undergrad, I’d have given this place five. The menu is a source of confusion for staff and customers alike. It’s pretty irrelevant once you manage to sort out what you actually want, because what turns up at the table is generally pretty good. And ridiculously cheap. With the cheapness in mind, it’s not a bad place. I’m not surprised that given the proximity to a uni, it appears to be doing well. Don’t expect great service, and expect the occasional mix up, but if you’re a student, you’d better harden up, princess. This place is made for you.
