In Brisbane, we are certainly spoilt for choice when it comes to Japanese cuisine & sushi. The trick is finding one that is great value for money, is delicious, fresh, has great service & offers a wide range of dishes to choose from. Tsuru sushi café certainly hits all the marks. It’s a mystery how we’d never come across Tsuru before, as they’ve been around since 2009, with a café in Ashgrove, Albany Creek, Manly West, West End & now Cannon Hill. The Cannon Hill café(@ 29 Southgate Avenue) has a calm ambience, & lots of natural colours. The staff greet you with a friendly«Hello» & a welcoming smile so you immediately feel at home. The menu is extensive with so many options to choose from including gluten free. So, we decided on 1) gingered pork belly roll sushi with cucumber, capsicum, & sesame seeds(4 @$ 7.80) 2) soft shell crab roll sushi with cucumber, sweet chilli mayo, avocado & flying fish roe(4 @$ 7.80) 3) tsukune«chicken meatballs»(2 @ $ 6.80) & 4) tsuru fried rice with tofu, eggs & vegetables($ 11.80) 5) Teriyaki chicken salad($ 12.80) What can we say. Officially one of our favourite Japanese cafes. Casual dining & meals at its gratifying best! It can get quite busy & with everything made fresh to order, there’s a slight wait, but it is totally worth it. So for a fresh & healthier meal that satisfies, definitely check out Tsuru sushi café. The café at Cannon Hill is open Mon– Wed 8am — 8:30pm, Thur — Sat 8am — 9pm, Sun 8:30am — 8pm.

Let’s start off with some harsh honesty… Cannon Hill hasn’t exactly been the food Mecca of Brisbane but if you were from out of town and had Tsuru for your first meal, you would be forgiven for thinking so. We heard it had opened and decided to give it a crack for lunch. We went a bit overboard and got crispy chicken sushi with avocado and mayonnaise, temperature tempura vegetables, miss soup, gyoza, and chicken karrage. All dishes were fantastic(especially the sushi) and definitely echelons above your food court sushi place. I deliberately avoided the seafood as I had no idea what the quality would be like however I am looking forward to giving it a go soon. I m am very very happy to have another great place within a 5 minute drive from home. Tsuru is another example of how Brisbane is growing up in the culinary world.
