I’m surprised by all the one and two star reviews for this place because eight of us(all of us world travelers) had dinner here and we all thought the food and service were fantastic. Everything was well prepared and spiced and I especially liked the Tom Kha soup, Pad Thai, Seafood Stir Fried, and Fried Tofu. The wait for food was nominal. I would say give it a chance and form your own opinion.

Ate in here. Food was edible, but aside from the lychee in the Thai-style sweet & sour, nothing special. The wait was long, made longer by the server delivering my Tom Kha Gai to the table next door, which they ate half of before figuring out it wasn’t vegetarian green curry. So it went back & was another ten minutes being re-prepared. Then when it came, my main came with it, so it sat there cooling off. But no worries as the Aussies say because it was going to be ten more minutes before my side of rice was there, anyway. Meanwhile the poor vegetarian guy sitting at the next table had send back dish after dish that had chicken in it. Given that this is Lygon St and it’s wall to wall restaurants, it should be easy to do better.

A lot of people rate a lot of the food here as bland. Maybe it’s because they don’t go heavy on the hot stuff, which is great for people like me, at least that’s what I thought. Must admit I’ve had much better Thai, for a lot cheaper, elsewhere.

According to The Internet, Chiangmai is pretty much the only Thai that delivers to my area. It’s not actually the case, but the peeps at Chiangmai are pretty savvy with the old SEO and make you forget that there are alternatives. As such, I’ve ordered food from Chiangmai twice. The first time was deliberate, but the second was a mistake — I’d forgotten I’d ordered here before and didn’t rate it. The food is edible, with some dishes such as the veg green curry being tasty, but it’s not really authentic. My main problem is that it’s pretty expensive for home delivery — there’s a minimum order of $ 30, and for whatever reason you can’t quite make it $ 30 exactly, end up spending closer to $ 40. For that much money you’ll get 2 mains and one tiny, very deeply fried entrée. Delivery is fast so no complaints there…

NOTES: ~ This review is based on delivery only! ~ Minimum order for delivery is $ 30. ~ You get 20% off your first online order. Food: Their menu variety isn’t too small, but it isn’t a guarantee you’ll find something that you like. It seems they have a lot of the basic Thai foods down, but none of their own personal flavour that makes their restaurant unique. I ordered Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Roti w/Peanut Sauce, and Satay Gai. The Pad Thai was bland and flavourless and the prawn seemed undercooked. The Pad See Ew was already cold by the time it got to me so that was kind of a downer. The Satay Gai was pretty rough and so was the Roti bread. Everything was edible, just not particularly appetising.
