A deliciously Gallic setting with a range of interesting dishes served by attentive and friendly staff. From the delicious Poisson du jour, a choice of eye fillets and other steaks, and an extensive range of interesting specials available, the diversity of our large group was amply catered for on all levels. The staff were particularly accommodating of our boisterous toddler, we’d love to come back again soon.

Ever since my vacation to Alaska where I went on a luxury cruise ship I have been wanting to go to a decent French restaurant as on the ship they had one and would serve succulent food for me each dinner. It was my friends birthday and I wanted to treat him to something good, its been a few moths since we wanted to go to a French restaurant but we are lazy so I decided this was the week to go, his mum had told us about a really good French restaurant in Carlton so I decided to make a booking. It was five of us and the atmosphere was really loud with what looked like high class people socialising, but it was still great for us as we could still hear each other talk. The waiter seemed to give off an unfriendly aura, I don’t know maybe it was us because we weren’t dressed that smart as the other consumers or he was just having a bad day. Our seating was bad as we were squashing the lovely old couple in the front of the restaurant and I had to always squash in when the waiters wanted to get through. The setting of the table was very fancy in fact, they did a technique with the butter and made it look like a flower, and all the cutlery and napkins were place neatly making me feel posh. But enough about the place I need to get to the good stuff! Oh wait I was shattered about one thing, they didn’t have frog legs on the menu! I was shattered as that’s one thing that I tasted on the cruise ship and made me go from ewwww to yummmm in a split second when I tasted it. For the Entrée I had the«Forest mushroom cups topped with snails and a herbed garlic butter» which my friends just gave me weird looks as I ate it, but on a good note the birthday boy ate them and tried something new. The snails tasted incredible, they mixed the perfect blend of garlic butter on it, which made the soft tasty meat of the snails send good feelings to the centre of my brain, then the mushroom which both of us ate last put the cherry on top. Next for my main I had the ‘Prime Export Quality 250g Eye fillet served with bearnaise sauce’, for those that know me, they know that I am really fussy with my steak but this place had me on my feet, joy going through my veins as that juice from each chew reminded me of why I work so hard each week. The bearnaise sauce was tasty but the meat tasted so good on its own so I took turns eating it with the sauce and without. For a restaurant that doesn’t specialize in steak it was pretty good, one I’d put in my top 10 list, and it still has me wishing I could get a girl to cook a steak that good, I’d drop to my knees straight away. Overall it was a great night especially after a long day at work on Friday and I hope to come back here, it even surprised me that they got actual waiters with French accents haha. Brilliant meal, great service mixed in with a very relaxed atmosphere = wonderful French experience. We went as a party of 4 and all of us had a great meal, from entrée all the way through dessert… would very much recommend it
