The Original Lolly Store

So you might not find old school lollies and candies here, well there are a few floating around the place, but what you will find is heaps of American, UK and NZ candy. There’s also a good range of international drinks, and interestingly, they also stock toys and other knick-​knacks. I use to load up on some of my favourite sweets and take them my lectures. But now that my school days are behind me, I just smuggle them into the cinema instead.

Remember when Dr. Pepper was cool? But then everyone soon realised it was not particularly tasty and almost had a medicinal flavour to it… Well, I’m that person that still likes it and the only place you can now buy it is at the Original Lolly Store, along with cherry cola and a variety of other American soft drinks.
But it’s not just about the soft drinks, it’s about the candy! So much candy! You can find the classics like Pez, Junior Mints and Jujyfruits for all you Seinfeld fans out there, or even just settle on some creative lolly pops, push-​pops and other sugary sweets.
This place will rot your teeth but you’ll have a bloody delicious time on the way.

C loves this place and we visit it whenever we are walking along Lygon St. This time we were on our way to see a movie at the Nova Cinema. So the justification for the visit was to get some lollies to eat during the film.
It is hardly an old fashioned lolly shop, as its name would imply. It is more of an international candy store, full of all kinds of visually delightful sweets and all kind of toys that are some how related to lollies. There is an amazingly, extensive range packed into this small shop.
There are American and English soft drinks in the fridge. One reason that C likes the shop is that it allows her to try the stuff that her Facebook friends in America write about. I appreciate their range of Dutch liquorices and find an old favourite — chalk, the white candy covered liquorice — that I have to buy. And C decides to buy some ginger flavored sweets.
