My boyfriend and I took my niece to Flower Power to start her a herb garden for her, as she has recently shown a keen interest in cooking due to the Junior Masterchef tv show. To encourage this new found passion of hers, we decided to invest in something that would help her create fantastic meals every time she gets in the kitchen. My boyfriend and I have our own herb garden that we are constantly using every single time we cook, and we knew this would be the perfect support for her growing ability to produce some fantastic looking and tasting meals! So off to Casula Flower Power we went. Usually my boyfriend is a Bunnings addict, but this time he insisted — Bunnings is more OVERALL home and garden products, but flower power has a bigger and better range of a lot more specific garden additives. So we were much more likely to find what we were looking for at Flower Power. He was right. This was my first trip to a Flower Power ever, so I took the opportunity with my niece to check out what they had to offer. Not only was the layout much more user friendly, cute and cosy and much less ‘warehousey’, but there really was a lot more variety! Instead of just one type of Basil, there were many different breeds to choose from! So we were able to find exactly what a novice would require in their first herb garden. We purchased a long rectangular pot, then picked up some Parsley, Basil, Coriander, Rosemary and a Chili tree. Just the basics at first. Along with some potting mix and a couple of flowers for my boyfriend to add to his own garden, we walked out paying under $ 30 for the lot(which is cheap considering the potting mix itself is about $ 8). Whilst there, I also pointed out to my niece that they conduct School Holiday Gardening Classes for Kids from Flower Power and they’re free! The classes were only advertised for late September/early October so we missed out for her this time, but it’s great to keep in mind for the next school holidays! My niece took home her newly planted herbs and is cooking starting her experimenting by cooking spaghetti bolognese with them tonight!
