Danube Grill Restaurant

The restaurant is in a quietish part of Glenhuntly Rd with a Hungarian restaurant and a Thai place opposite. We joined a party celebrating a birthday so only had a fixed menu,. Our table took up most of the room and I felt sorry for the other 8 diners as our table talked non stop waiting for food to appear after an hours wait. The food,
Don’t expect finesse, more homely cooking, tomato, cucumber feta salad, sauerkraut and chopped onion accompanied the grilled meat. Baby lamb chop, sausages chicken breat and then another plate of long sausages. All quite tasty but the lamb was too well cooked for my taste. Dessert was two crepes filled with sweetened ricotta and sultanas, very filling but delicious, one would have been enough. for me but I noticed most guests had cleaned their plates!
Go if you want a taste of the Balkans.

It starts with a cozy post WWI nostalgic Belgrade, Serbia setting with a very intimate atmosphere — followed by a warm and welcoming vibe from the owner Dushan as you walk through the front doors. If you’re looking for Vue De Monde then you’re in the wrong place but if you’re looking for something a little traditional and away from the hustle then you’ve come to the right place.
Danube embraces the tastes of former Yugoslavia — with a Serbian influence, it really hits home for those with a Balkan background and also for those dining enthusiasts ranging from intermediate to expert tastes. Amazing Cevapi (mini mince sausages) to the Kajmak (thickened dairy cream) on home made bread, it’s certain to tantalise your tastebuds.
If you’re lucky (and generally on Thursday nights) you’ll have a chance to dine to the sounds of traditional Balkan music — performed by four very talented musicians — it’s a wonderful experience and a very entertaining evening for all.
To wrap it up, Danube is a small hidden away Gem that — once uncovered — will continue to shine for those who appreciate something a little different with very satisfying results!
