The bistro is especially lovely in the warm spring months where the flowers blooms and the vineyards are green, but even on the crisp but sunny Autumn day it is still lovely to sit outside and enjoy the clear blue skies and see the slight dew on the lawn. The food menu at Fillaudeau’s Café and Restaurant, is extensive and everything sounded delicious making it very hard to chose. Their wine list has a lovely collection of Pinelli’s wine and we both had a glass each, a sparkling for bf and a red for me. If you wanted you could try the wines are the cellar first to get a better idea of what you wanted with your lunch. After much deliberation, we decided to share their pan fried potato gnocchi as an entrée(even though it was on their menu as a main) with mains being the lamb for the boy and pork belly for me followed by a shared dessert. The staff were more than happy to bring the main sized gnocchi out early as an entrée, and were even willing to make it the size of an entrée but we decided because we were sharing, the main size should be fine. Talk about being accommodating, service is so far pretty fantastic. There was a choice with the pan fried gnocchi — with either the morsels mushroom sauce or blue cheese. We decided to go with the blue cheese. When the gnocchi came out, we were surprised by the size of the dish. Firstly, the serving size if pretty big, secondly, the gnocchi themselves were humongous, just look at the photo! Definitely not your typical small fluffy pillows — more like tall little soldiers! The gnocchi was a little denser but the texture was that lovely creamy fluffy goodness. For the mains: The lamb shoulder was tender, the cutlet cooked to perfection — that lovely pink centre. It was paired with a lovely silky Paris mash, and delicious Choran sauce(a traditional 1900 French tomato and tarrogan butter sauce), which just seemed to bring out the flavours of the red meat even more. How do I know this? We like sharing and taste testing each other’s mains. As for me? I had the pork belly in my sights, which was also a delight for the boy as he was tossing up between the pork belly and the lamb. Now he gets both! The pork belly came with the most perfect crackling ever, that sound of crunch… ahh. you know it’d be good. The pork was moist and tender, a little on the fatty side, nothing that the knife and folk can’t fix. It was paired with a Waldolf salad and figs which really is the perfect partnership to any pork dish. But to top it off it came with sweety, sticky honeycomb and a sprinkle of chilli and a touch of port jus. Bön Appetit! The servings at Fillaudeau is very generous and hearty. But we really wanted the crème brûlée. And as they say, the French do know their desserts and when you are at a lovely French bistro — you can’t go pass it. So we shared their traditional vanilla crème brûlée. Ah like the crackling on the pork… I just love the sound of the perfectly torched sugar coat of the brulee followed by lovely silky creamy vanilla bean crème. The one at Fillaudeau did not disappoint. Overall, Fillaudeau Café and Restaurant has a lovely relaxed casual vibe, overlooking a quaint vineyard. The service is impeccable, the food was delicious and hearty and the servings were massive and definitely value for money. So if you are ever looking for somewhere to eat out in the Swan Valley, then make a booking.

Lovely food and friendly service. Serving pinelli and French wines so you can enjoy local or a wine with a difference with your meals. Lovely seasonal menu, pretty setting and nice views of the vineyards. Not too far into the valley located just off Benara road Caversham!
