Open late and good for the last minute purchases. Prices are reasonable for the Claremont Area. They stock whole ducks and a huge range of spiced nuts. Great fruit and vegetable range at reasonable prices.

Apart from the slight inflated prices on a few items, Jacks does have it going on. Really fresh fruit and veg, an awesome delicatessen section with a great range of meats and cheeses and heaps of really nice quality selections that are from producers you just won’t find in the likes of Coles or Woolworths.

As a pescatarian(a vegetarian who eats seafood) I love and need my vegetables and fruits to be tasty, fresh and not as expensive as a mini designer bag! Finding Jack’s was a blessing because my food bill has halved and going shopping for food has actually become fun! The first thing you notice about Jack’s is its presentation, it almost calls you in by tempting you with its many little fruit and veg stands outside, once you make your way in everything is clean, the produce looks fresh(but not fake) and you can also find out of season fruit and veg! Another wonderful thing about Jack’s is that it has so much quality under one roof; it has the best selection of nuts(yes I know I should not be getting this excited over nuts) which is so much more affordable than any where else, it also stocks products like Harvey Fresh Lactose free yogurt(which is difficult to find else where) and has a deli many would dream about.

Although situated in Claremont Quarter, where the prices of everything are upped, just because it’s Claremont, Jack’s is a welcome break from the trend. I was reluctant to buy fruit and veg in the fruit market here as I thought the prices would be a lot higher than my local one, but I was in Claremont last Saturday and needed to get a few things and knew my local would be closed by the time I got back there, so I begrudgingly went in. To my surprise the high quality fruit and veg here is extremely reasonable. Huge and perfectly just under-ripe WA avacados at 2 for $ 3 — my dream! 25% less than my local and much better quality! I’ll certainly be stopping in here again on my way home from a shopping trip!

This shop is very attractive there’s no doubt about that. The cheese and cold meats section is awash with varieties from near and far. They have outsourced their bread section to Baker’s Delight however which seemed a little odd to me. I was also a little disappointed by the lack of store-made products on the shelved such as hummus or salads. Nevertheless, this supermarket does have a lot of fresh products but isn’t on the same par as their neighbours The Boatshed Market.

Situated in popular Claremont Quarter, this wholefoods and groceries store looks like an IGA grafted with a more rustic Harris Farms-type outlet. It’s cleaner and less tightly fitted-out than the former, but while some of its produce is freshly presented(almost in a David Jones deli manner), the canned sort on the shelves are nothing too exciting. That said, I was infatuated with the look of their dips(fetta in dukkah, kalamata olive) and, on the other end of the culinary spectrum, thought I’d check out the prices of pet food since I’d been looking after a fussy terrier that week. Beneful(the best dog food I think there is) is surprisingly 25% cheaper here than at Coles or IGA. Indeed the prices at Jack’s appear all over the shop in comparison to other grocery stores. Aesthetics aside(for this does look like a neat joint), I walked out with a Cream tart, purchased for $ 9.50, and must say it wasn’t the freshest. Still, the balance of exotic foods and your more simpler ones at Jack’s is good for when stocking up for a special dinner party requiring the odd hard-to-get-hold-of ingredient. Oh, and I love the fact that this place opens at 7am every day of the week and closes late at 10pm. Consider that competition, Coles et al!
