Average to be honest. Only outstanding item was the Teh Iced Longan. I would like to have it again. The pandan rice was surprisingly green — not sure if they use actual pandan or just put in colour with the essence flavour. Traditional waxed brown paper used, which is helpful with mixing my choices with the rice. Rice was dry as well. Pricing is decent. Overall, not bad at all.

Had nasi lemak with fried chicken, was OK for me. I like the beef rendang better :) the fragrant coconut rice is nice and generous portion. The place is kids friendly, they have baby toys at reach. The staffs are very attentive and food served in timely manner.

Thank you Ricefield by Homecooked for making nasi lemak the menu item it ought to be. There’s no token effort here as you would see in hawker eateries around Perth where it’s a serving barely bigger than entrée. Ricefield does share platters where there are several options for the meat accompaniment. If you’re dining for one you have a choice of meat to add. Now the rice is coconut rice AND pandan rice. Both. I don’t know anywhere else in Perth that does this. I haven’t even come across pandan rice being served anywhere before and it’s refreshing to see that someone is finally doing this. Don’t get me wrong, I love coconut rice but pandan rice has a sweeter fragrance about it that matches well with the sambal. The sambal is on the sweet side for me but I won’t hold it against them. Everyone has a different sambal recipe and in turn a different nasi lemak ensemble. Ricefield does it justice. Also on offer are teh tarik, kopi tarik, and ice bandung. There’s also ice kachung for those particularly warm days. All made on the premises. I’m glad this little family run place has opened up and the word is getting out to nasi lemak fans. It’s my go to if I have to get a nasi lemak fix.

I love this place!!! At long last there are decent food options in Cockburn and Success! This place is right next to the Cockburn train station and serves amazing Malaysian food. They specialize in platters for 2, 3 or 4 people. And you get an enormous plate of food to share! For $ 35 for 2 people with drinks(like teh tarik and ice bendang) it is very good value. They add no palm oil, they bake everything and they don’t add MSG. Everything is really nice, check this place out!

I haven’t picked up my husband from the Cockburn Train Station after work for more than 2 months so I was surprised with what I found when I went there yesterday. I saw two new restaurants with a sign ‘opening soon’, a sushi train place and a MSG-free Malaysian /Singapore restaurant called Ricefield by Homecooked. Miss L from The Engineer Eats actually recommended the last restaurant to me during our meet up a few weeks ago at Mister Walker. I told my husband that we’d change our scheduled salad night to another day(much to his delight) because I was so keen to try Ricefield. We walked from the carpark to the restaurant and we only saw one customer who was waiting for his food. The owner greeted us and explained to us what was on the menu with the range of dishes and specials on offer. The owner explained that each vegetarian and meat dish comes with rice but they also have platters to share if we want to try more than one dish. I opted for a platter for two with drinks that ended up costing around $ 35. My platter came with coconut and jasmine rice, fried chicken, sambal prawn, assam fish, sayur lodeh(mixed vegetables curry), beef rendang, sambal goreng(tofu & green beans) and curry chicken. Our favourite dish was the sambal prawn and when I mentioned this to Amy(the chef & lady boss), she explained that the sambal prawn recipe was her mother in law’s recipe. In fact most of the recipes was received from the husband’s family lineage up to the husband’s grandmother. It’s really great to hear that there’s a lot of history in the food and very personal too. Hubby really liked the curry chicken’s gravy and he kept on covering his rice with extra gravy. The drinks that I ordered was Iced Bandung and Cold Kopi Tarik(milk coffee). The Iced Bandung was a bit bland and lacking in syrup but we can easily ask the owner for more syrup. The cold kopi Tarik had a good balance between the coffee and milk. In Asian families, we usually have a lot of variety of dishes and the platter really brought back the homecooked feeling especially when eaten for dinner. Hubby and I really liked the place and will definitely try their nasi lemak next time. Another great reason to force hubby to get picked up at Cockburn central station hehehe.

My god an urban surprise. Decent almost authentic Malay/Singapore/Indo cuisine. The chilli level had been dampened to suit Western palates but the texture and flavour is maintained. Ice katchang is a must try. They use a milder grass jelly that I don’t find dispalateful, much to the horror of others. Will return

This popped up recently in Cockburn Central and we thought we would give it a try tonight; after seeing their rendang sign out the front a couple of weeks ago. There were 2 men running the show — serving, cooking, cleaning, everything! They were really friendly and served us quite quickly. We decided on a platter for 4 so we could try lots of menu items and that way we didn’t have to make one choice too. There was a little bit of await between ordering and our platter arriving, but soon after we arrived several other tables filled with customers too. When our food came out and he apologised for the wait; which really wasn’t that long. We started eating and the comment was made there was only a small portion of rendang and I said, yeah we need more and we can order some more if we need to. My comment must have been heard because he brought us another bowl straight away. Wow, I was impressed. I really liked what was referred to as chinese wasabi, it was hot and tasty. It was similar the chilli you get with chicken rice. The teh tarik and kopi tarik was good too. It didn’t have 3 tablespoons of sugar; I really appreciated that because I hate when it’s so sweet you can’t taste anything but the sugar. At the end of our meal, the man came around offering complimentary magnums — another wow!!! The food was great and the customer service was wonderful. I am very impressed that they go out of their way to make their customers happy. It’s the small things that can change a dining experience to great and they went that extra mile. I would absolutely recommend Ricefield by homecooked and I will be returning too :)
