I’d heard many great things about Bluebird, but was sadly disappointed. Admittedly I had only swung by for a TA coffee, however found a particular member of staff incredibly rude. Albeit my $ 5 coffee tasted absolutely delicious, his pretentious attitude left a pretty sour taste in my mouth.

Great little place, great service and great quality coffee. Very conveniently located on Johnston Street. Absolutely incredible poached eggs with smashed avo, parsley, fresh mint and the pièce de résistance, the Meredith goats fetta! Incredible! This would definitely be my best choice for brunch and coffee in the area.

Incredible food, daily specials including a Mimosa, breakfast salad and Proud Mary Filter coffee, good tunes. They have a booth in the window, 2 or 4 person tables, and outside seating. If I had to think of something bad it would be just that its a little bit of a squeeze. But I’ll definitely be back!

I’ve had breakfast here numerous times, and every time I’ve had a great experience. Food is always great and the staff are always nice. It’s a cute little spot too, with a nice little courtyard out back.

Pretty minimalist fit out but warm and inviting here nonetheless. The outside seats aren’t rickety and uncomfortable like some sidewalk jaunts. Was pleasant enough sitting outside on a sunny day. Coffee here by Proud Mary. Served up a fairly decent espresso and flat white. Food was great too, really fresh and quickly prepared. Fried chicken sandwich was really but possibly a bit short on the protein portion. Bread and salad that accompanied were good quality fare and well matched. Good tasting burger all up. Bluebird did the basics really well and had some really accommodating staff to boot. Would return if I’m in the area. Recommended.

Amazing food for a pretty impressive price. I got the smashed avocado which wasnt just your normal avo, it had so much more to it! Mint, parsley, ricotta, lemon and olive oil. Incredible! My boyfriend had the brekkie sandwich with bacon the girl who served us asked«triple meat?» The answer was yes. His heart was probably feeling it afterwards but he said he absolutely loved it. All up with drinks our brunch came to $ 40… The only reason I gave this place 4 starts was due to the girl who served us, she lacked enthusiasm and I do appreciate kindness

I had one of my all time favorite breakfasts at this place. The smashed avocado with poached eggs. It’s avocado, fresh mint, parsley, Meredith’s goat cheese(I still don’t know who Meredith is but her goat cheese is smooth and creamy) and poached eggs on multi grain bread. Every taste bud in my mouth was tingling. Amazing. The patio garden was small and comfortable, with heat lamps. I loved everything about this place.

Only took one visit and I’m officially a fan. Great food, service, and coffee, all at excellent value! I tried the sausage and eggs, and my fellow compatriot ordered one of the sandwiches, both of which, scored a ‘legit’ taste rating. And with most of the menu items at sub $ 15, Bluebird espresso has easily become one of my new favourites.

Any café that lists, as it’s first item no less, berocca under their ‘something light’ offerings is bound to be good, & bluebird doesn’t dissapoint. It’s Smith St location might not be the prettiest but it’s practical, & their courtyard area out the back completely makes up for this, with cover & heating! The menu is extensive with the usual offerings & a whole lot more. Their pulled pork sandwich is a must. It’s a yes from me.

Absolutely top class. Had the special which was poached eggs on asparagus with lemon zest. So nice and pretty cheap too. Service was excellent also.

The food and coffee here are awesome. Sometimes the staff struggle with the sheer volume of the customers, which is totally understandable. They always remain helpful and friendly though. Highly recommend this place,

This is my favourite weekend breakfast hangout by far. The doors open at 9am, and when they do, this place can fill up quickly! Amazingly friendly staff will tend to your culinary and caffiene beverage delights, with a fantastic selection of egg and toast dishes, from the spanish eggs, to an amazing Croque Monsieur. In addition, the specials rotating around this place are fantastic, and you’ll always see something you want to try. Coupled with blankets to keep warm, a garden out back, and kitchy paintings on the walls, this is one place that you’ll want to frequent again and again.

Look, don’t tell too many people okay? You’ll ruin it. I take my boyfriend here, and I take my Mum here… what’s not to love? Great coffee, great service, a modern classic menu and a low fuss funky décor. A few daily specials wouldn’t go astray for those of us who eat here nearly every weekend but I’ve no real complaints. Oh, one actually. They have to leave the door open in winter due to ventilation issues. Get that fixed yeah? Keep up the good work Bluebird crew.

I love the intimacy of Bluebird, the staff are always friendly and they are pretty good at greeting you with your coffee order. It’s small, not pretentious and the smashed avocado rocks! I have a weekly breaky meeting here and I’ve never been disappointed. It’s nice to see a quality café pop up in a fairly down in the dumps section of Johnson St.

I decided to check out a new breakfast place just recently and Unilocaled ones in Collingwood. I found Bluebird Espresso, located on Johnston Street just a couple of blocks past Smith Street. The little café is airy and the staff are really friendly. The coffee was really good and the menu was fairly sizable but far from extensive. They do a number of variations on poached eggs that go beyond your normal Benedict and Florentine fare. I went for the harissa eggs with a side of mushies. The pepper(or capsicum in Aus) was packed with flavour, the yolk was runny and it was nice and hot with the harissa. The mushrooms were well seasoned and tasty. I’m a fan!

Located on the quiet end of Smith Street, Bluebird Espresso serves simple, but good breakfast along with good coffees. They also have friendly staff. I love the décor of Bluebird Espresso, particularly the outside and communal table. Inside, small dark wooden tables take up most of the space. Outside you’ll find fake grass with bamboo/straw fencing. The menu is quite limited, but good. For around $ 15, you do get a small, but tasty dish. For me, the size isn’t too small — it’s equivalent to the Bell Jar or Mitte, but for $ 15, I know I can get bigger dishes at some of the other breakfast establishments around Collingwood. Arcadia, for example, serves pretty big dishes for a similar price. However, I really enjoyed the meal. I ordered the Mexican breakfast — 2 fried eggs on top of two tortillas served with beans, corns, and salsa. I added chorizo; the spice went perfectly with the Mexican breakfast. Bluebird Espresso was a great find. It is less central than many of the breakfast/brunch places, but worth it if you’re in Collingwood searching for a new place to try out.

My bike got a puncture so I ended up walking to work instead of riding. This gave me a chance to stop in at bluebird, something I’ve been thinking about but seem to have accumulated too much speed to stop on the bike, it is at the bottom of a hill. Situated in a semi industrial part of Johnston St, this area is not far from becoming as popular as its Fitzroy namesake. Bluebird is heralding the times to come. This slick little café hasn’t opened fully polished, but has got class and style. Serving simple café fare, they have obviously put the emphasis on doing the plain things well. They also serve a very smooth coffee, although not as much punch as I was after. The fresh flowers on the tables, is a nice touch and they have a cosy courtyard out the back. The bench tables out the front don’t offer much peace and are a match flick away from the bus fumes.
