NOTES: ~ This review is based on delivery ONLY. ~ Order 7 times online and get your 8th meal free. To be honest, I’m a wee bit surprised at all the negative reviews Deccan Kebab is getting — the average ratings on Unilocal and the negative ratings over at Urbanspoon. I recently ordered delivery from Deccan Kebab and I think the place serves up some delicious grub. Maybe I just got lucky? Food: My boyfriend and I both ordered the Lamb Kebab Meal(large for 15 dollars) with came with rice or chips, dip, and bread. I also ordered a side of large chips. And I’m glad I did order those chips because the chips that came with the Lamb Kebab Meal had like 7 in total. It was pretty funny actually. However, those chips were pretty good — not chalky at all. As for the Lamb Kebab Meal, I was impressed. It was delicious and they used the perfect amount of veggies as well(onions, tomatoes, parsley). It didn’t feel like the typical greasy kebab. In fact, the meal tasted rather healthy yet wholesome and filling at the same time. My boyfriend and I both enjoyed our meals. The prices are moderate and I’ll definitely be ordering from here again.

This Kebab store is in a perfect location: not only does it catch the patrons of Perseverance and Barry’s — but it also cleans up on those coming home from the CBD. It seems like it is in constant battle with the Kebab store across the road too, but I’m sure there are enough of us to go around — they both seem fairly busy. There is nothing like a kebab after a big night, sometimes all you want to do is bury your regrets, tiredness or drunken bliss in a kebab. They are filling, rich and oh so delicious. I don’t think that this is the best kebab store on the strip, I actually believe that it’s competitor does it better, however there are just some nights when you are too drunk to go very far and need something to eat. That is why this place is a godsend.

Deccan Kebab has a lot of nerve, taking over from the only local fish and chip shop, and leaving me high and dry in my pursuit for a fried dim sim and banana fritter. My expectations were low when I saw the nasty décor, which looks strangely McDonalds inspired. However, when a boozy night out gave me little choice but to buy a kebab on my way home, my initial judgements were proved wrong. This is a slightly different take on the standard kebab as it comes in Turkish bread, rather than a flat souvlaki wrap. It’s quite a nice change as the absorbent bread soaks up a lot of the generous serve of garlic sauce, so there’s a whole lot of flavour. Whilst I feel badly for the poor souvlaki shop across the road, which must be suffering now that there’s a competitor so close, I do think Deccan Kebab is slightly better.

Where wiser to open a kebab shop than smack bang next door to Dirty Secrets, one of Smith Street’s best — and most dangerous — bars? Nowhere. Granted, I’d already imbibed about seven drinks — including three of Dirty Secrets’ lethal cocktails — when I patronized newly opened Deccan Kebab last Friday but I can safely say that this is a great kebab addition to already kebab shop saturated Smith Street. I opted for a chicken kebab which came complete with crunchy lettuce, yummy tsatsiki and some ‘mild’ chilli sauce which was actually nothing of the sort. The meat was lean, yummy and not too salty and the salad fresh and crispy. Just beware Deccan Kebab’s frankly terrifyingly hot chilli sauces. If Deccan’s mild sauce was enough to sober me up from my espresso martini haze I hate to think how potent this new kid on the Smith Street kebab block’s hot chilli sauce is. You have been warned.
