I work in Crows Nest so my first coffee of the say usually comes from that neck of the woods. I have tried many different cafés in the area but always come back to The Crowzone. Lovely coffee, warm, friendly staff and nice atmosphere. The Breakfast Wrap is worth the 5 stars alone and is the only food that I miss now that in vegetarian. However, I might sneak the odd one on special occasions haha.

It’s not the coolest kid on the street as far as cafes on the Crows Nest hub go but the Crow Zone Café provides consistent quality and tables are easier to come by for Sunday brunch. Coffee is average but there is a decent array of breakfast and lunch options from eggs to wraps to salads. The service is pretty fast and friendly too. My dining companion and I were sold by the specials on offer — I opted for the chorizo scrambled(scrambled eggs woven with spinach and chorizo) and my companion had the pork belly eggs benedict. My meal came out in its full glory — a massive pile of scrambled eggs on a slice of buttered Turkish toast. Pretty delicious but a little too greasy for me and I only finished half. The area for improvement? Having the toast lie under the eggs meant it was quite soggy — I would have preferred the toast on the side, as well as butter on the side to give myself a healthier option. In the past, I’ve also had a smoothie here as well as the tandoori chicken salad. Both decent but nothing to tell the neighbours about.

This is a lovely little café, every time I’m in Crows Nest this is where I head. They roast their own coffee, a very good blend. Lots of yummy things to eat, and they will modify what’s on the menu if like me you don’t eat meat. The place looks much better since the refit. The service is always quick and friendly and the outside seating is a bonus.

My first review! And through an intricate tapestry, it ends up being a sour tale. But I wouldn’t have had it any other way, because I got a hilarious story to tell out of my misadventure at the Crow Zone. And boy do people laugh when I tell them! First off, kudos to the polite waitstaff for being understanding of my request to send back a scrambled eggs and salmon breakfast order I made. Their kind attitude is really worth a star in itself, hence why this place is getting more than just one from me. Anyhow, I was sitting with a friend when the offending dish was brought out to me. I felt that the salmon had a bit of a funk to it, but no worries as I asked the waitress if she would please exchange it for something else. She said that she would check with her manager, who soon marched over to our table, and insisted that: 1) There was nothing wrong with my order. They serve it all the time. 2) I «didn’t know what smoked salmon was supposed to taste like». 3) «It’s *smoked* salmon, so it *never* goes bad.» 4) He’d eaten the leftover food off of my plate(!!!) and could vouch himself that it was fine. Now I’m not an unreasonable, «customer-is-always-right» type — in fact, I recognise that sometimes the customer is being a tool. But in this case, I simply felt that I didn’t want to blow $ 16 on what I thought was rancid food. The manager did eventually oblige somewhat and suggested I pick something else off the menu and that we would«work something out», whatever that means. In the end, I got some pretty good crepes. Ultimately though, I was with a friend and it was quite embarrassing to be treated like a liar in front of him, or at least an imbecilic patron who doesn’t know what salmon is meant to taste like.

Well, a mixed review. I think our waitress was hung over, cos she sure looked sick the Sunday we went in, and clearly wanted to be somewhere else. The service was, on that basis, pretty average. Food arrived before the cutlery, water not offered, v-e-r-y s-l-o-w to take our order and bring the food. On the other hand, the tandoori chicken salad was excellent, with huge helpings of chicken with very tasty sauce. In fact some of it came home with us, as she couldn’t eat it all. Coffee also nice, a good bean and well made, although the cu could have done with a scrub.

The Crow Zone Café is a lovely place to visit. Light comes streaming through the glass-fronted façade(which is often opened up), or you can opt to sit under the umbrellas outside. Both are great places to sit and watch the world go by. Their coffee has got game, but the best thing about this café is the all day breakfast. You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to cafes in Crows Nest, but all day brekkies are a rarer species. And if you’re on the hunt, then pancakes and the eggs benedict are absolutely worth your time.

This is a very modest Café. The light brown floorboards, the orange sofa back chairs, the row of African snap shots framed along one wall, the red feature wall at the back and the cane chairs… oh and the abstract portrait of I’m guessing is the owner who was buzzing about. There’s not much more to it. But that’s just fine if all you want is a nip in nip out breaky or take away coffee. The coffee is Green Bean home roasted. I asked for an extra hot soy mocha and that’s what I got. Nothing fancy yet did the job of warming me up on a drizzly wet spring day. The menu is fairly comprehensive — pasta, salads, Turkish bread sandwiches, fish. Highlights are: Pan fried barramundi fillets with herbed butter and lemon braised potato and leek topped with crispy pancetta served with a salad garnish($ 23.90) Sweet potato burger with pine nuts, basil, Parmesan, rocket, sun dried tomatoes with grain mustard with mayonnaise, Turkish bread and salad($ 13.90) High chairs, outdoor seating.
