I probably should give this place another shot since the Unilocalers seem to rave about this place, however my experience here wasn’t all that great, and unfortunately I don’t see myself returning to Crows Nest anytime soon. Okay, the bar (or should I say restaurant because it looked more like a restaurant to me) was nice enough, and the décor was pretty cool, especially the spot at the back were I ended up seating myself, however the beer they served me was absolutely dreadful. It was so yeasty it couldn’t finish it. Maybe it was a bad batch or something, but it really soured my experience here. Maybe I should have complained to the staff, but then again I generally don’t do that. Oh, they do Pepsi instead of Coke, which also annoys me somewhat (I can’t stand Pepsi, not that I am a huge Coke drinker anyway).

What a great pub; very nice menu options when it comes to food. I really like the $ 10 Cocktail that they do on a Saturday. Staff are always pleasant and it’s a great place to either unwind or get your night started.

Make sure you get there early for a table, or be ready to pounce. We ordered mostly pizzas and they were GREAT– perfect for sharing. The quesadillas were ordinary and the arancini pretty good, but not overwhelmingly fantastic. There is a tapas style menu and a much substantial menu.
Each night there is a different special, so make sure you check those out.
While the food and drink available were great, it was noisy (you know those places where you come out and your ears are ringing?) — an since there was no dancing and most people where eating main sized meals, it seemed unnecessary and a big turn off to return or stay for more drinks.
I will point out, that a few years ago a group of us went to The Stoned Crow and some of us (those who ate the same dish) cam down with food poisoning and because of this I’ve avoided the place since. Since then it’s had two new owners and a serious renovation.

This place has come a long way since it was a complete dive several years ago. It has really done a lot to lift the overall vibe of Crows Nest. The Stoned Crow is a great place to have in the area and has helped change the demographics of people visiting the area.
That being said… It is really, really expensive for what it is. Food is around $ 20 – 29 for a main (excluding the specials) and is not really as awesome as other pub grub. Drinks are also on the more expensive side.
Will I go there again. Yes. Service is good and it has a good atmosphere. But it isn’t somewhere that I will be desperate to go back to, or somewhere that I would enjoy eating again.

Looks quite inviting from the street view. Once inside, it’s not too bad, but the cool vibe is quickly diminished by the garish sports TV and the routinely uncool music (Phil Collins, really?).
I came here with my wife for an after dinner drink and some chillout time. I was glad not to have eaten here, because my visit to the bathroom revealed that kitchen staff do not properly wash hands after taking care of business in there.
Aside from that it was OK, we did’t stick around. Crows Nest has better options IMO.

Delicious $ 5.50 pizzas on weekends (normally about $ 10 each on weekdays) and super friendly bar staff. We tried the margherita and mushroom & pancetta pizzas and both were sensational.

I’ve only been to the Stones Crow since it had it’s make over. Apparently werewolves don’t change as much as this place has. They’ve done a good job, modern chic was probably the look they were going for. The food is pretty good for a bar and they have a nice selection of drinks, or at least, a selection of drinks I like.
I’ve had some rather diverse experiences here. On some occasions it is like any other trendy bar, lots of well dressed beautiful people. The kind of people you would expect in a bar like this, in Crow’s Nest. And if I stopped here, it would get 4 stars.
However, sometimes they have «entertainment»!
Now I’m not against music in a bar, I’m from Ireland, we really don’t need an excuse to break into song in a bar. But some guy on a keyboard, playing music for his groupie (who appeared to be his mother) and a repertoire that included the Bee Gees, is not what I look for in late night entertainment. Especially when they play it at volumes that make my ears bleed. The bar emptied and while it was morbidly interesting to watch. I now have a quick look around for signs of a keyboard before I dare enter.
It’s still a good venue, but I think it needs to decide on it’s image and stick to it.

So.
The Stoned Crow. Time was these words would invoke an involuntary shudder that ran up and down my spine like whooping cough. Waves of black memory break unbidden upon the shingle of my thoughts. Dark, smoky rooms. Leering grins. Sticky floors. Pancake make up and teeth stained with lipstick.
But no more! The gentrification of the Crowie strip continues with the latest incarnation of the Stoned Crow rising — phoenix-​like! — from the ashes of the previous. And this one done be a keeper yo. Giant, open sun-​splashed wooden bench looking out onto the pedestrian strip. Comfy couches cloistered away in cosy yet surprisingly open alcoves. Wood, chalk boards, exposed brick. Shockingly attractive wait staff pulled straight from an American Apparel catalogue and friendler than Labradors.
I hit this place on a late Friday for happy hour — $ 10 frozen cocktails — and it was pumping man, full of hot-​to-​trots and way-​cools.
In summary: The Stoned Crow is like a disgusting, pitiful homeless man covered in his own excrement that conquered his amnesia and destitution, had a long hot shower, threw on some classy duds and landed a lucrative modelling job. If it were a Hollywood movie it’d be called «Harry The Hobo Comes Good.»

If we were writing an allegorical movie about the bars on Willoughby Road and were going to present it as a Merchant-​Ivory historical biopic, the Stoned Crow would play the Crowie’s younger, handsomer and slightly broodier brother. I’m thinking classic 80s Sean Penn and the Crowie would be 80s Sly Stallone.
With this in mind, you can probably conjure the image of the Stoned Crow sight unseen: this bar features extensive earth coloured tiling, mirrors, leather couches, and drapy curtains. And yet, at heart, it can’t resist the big screen TVs and gaming area. All the same, this is a perfectly acceptable place to spend a long work lunch over a couple of beers and some shoestring fries.
(At present, the Stoned Crow is undergoing a makeover — smart money is still on the leather couches and mirrors, but I await the big unveiling. Which 80s star will I compare it to next? Michael J Fox? Rob Lowe? Only time will tell.)
