Gaucho Grill Steakhouse

After the horrible reviews I had to try it myself — Australia is Steak country — that is at least what I decided for myself being a near vegetarian when in Europe :-)
So I went there with a friend, she insisted in having a steak, so good excuse for me.
The welcome was extremely warm, greeted by an elderly lady from Argentina and chatted for a bit as I was in the region where she comes from just last year. Nice and warm welcome, chat continued loosely over the evening.
Service overall was nice and speedy.
The starters, shrimps with garlic and chorizo were spicy with nice herbs and flavor.
The steaks for the main were cooked ok, not exactly to the point as ordered, but just acceptable, however excellent meat and veggies, but therefore only four stars.
I will definitely come back and give it another try, prices totally ok.

We went here as a group of about 20 folks for a team dinner, so this review is from that perspective.
The venue is well fitted out, and the staff clearly genuine South Americans since we had trouble communicating :-) fortunately one of us was a Brazilian so that helped.
Dinner was a set menu — we had empanadas, fried cheese, and a few other entrée’s, all pretty well received by the team.
For the main delivered to both tables was a large hot grill with a selection of BBQd meats and some salads and sauces. The meats were good, beef bones, pork cutlets, lamp, etc etc, and since it was mainly a bunch of blokes it went down well. The meat is as much as you can eat, so we ate a lot! Several refills for both table, I think.
Deserts were OK, not that memorable (clue, I can’t remember what I had) but enjoyable largely.‘
We had a good night, and it is worth a try, but I think you can get better South American food elsewhere in town.

I am really sad to write this review as I don’t like writing bad review’s, but i was SO DISAPPOINTED with Gaucho Grill Steakhouse that I had to share my thoughts.
I was really excited to try Gaucho as my partner is Argentine so we wanted to try out the Argentine restaurant’s in Sydney.
For Entrée’s we ordered empanadas which were $ 8.50 each. They came out hot and crunchy, but for $ 8.50, i don’t think i got my money’s worth. They were small!
My partner and I ordered a main each: Parrillada and Tres Lomos. The cost of the main’s were $ 33 /​$ 30 respectively and since we have been to Boca Grill, we thought that the serving size would be generous — WE WERE WRONG!
The serving size was small and the pieces of meat were not juicy at all. They were cooked on an asado (bbq) but the meat was sooooo dry! There wasn’t any great flavour and i hardly ate any of the meat because it had been overcooked. All of the meat was unedible.
The only good thing at this restaurant was the overpriced empanada and the sangria.
I am sad to say, I will never ever return to Gaucho.
As for service, I believe Gaucho is owned by a couple. The man was not nice to us at all and was really grumpy, but the woman (i think his wife) was really nice to us. There was only one other group at the restaurant, I think the local’s know to avoid this place like the plague. Sad but true.
