Super annoying. I go in and explain to the guy cutting my hair that I am growing it out and not to take out any length. After washing my hair he starts cutting away at the back and I ask him«what are you doing?». And he says«I’m just cleaning things up». Turns out he is clipped over 2 cm in length off the back. Complete d**head. Next time please listen to what the customer has asked for!!!

Ye Olde Barber Shoppe it ain’t. You will get an outstanding haircut. It will not be fast. It will not be cheap. But they clearly take deep pride in getting every single strand exactly right.

Great barbers who know what they’re doing, and spend the time to get it right. Been going here for two years now, wouldn’t go anywhere else(except maybe their CBD branch which has longer opening hours during the week). Fun, relaxed atmosphere. They also do shaves, but I don’t really have facial hair.

While on holiday in Sydney my boyfriend needed a haircut as we were heading to a wedding. He’d never been to a proper barber and wanted to give it a go. He really enjoyed lying back in the chair, having a shave with a blade which is a rare thing, and coming out with some well manicured facial hair. They also exfoliated his cheeks and he was amazed at how soft his skin felt(in a manly way). Yes it was pricey, but still less than I pay for a haircut. I have to say he looked a million bucks when they were done! The downside? Now he wants to ‘man scape’ his face all the time.

Finding the right hairdresser can sometimes be a little tricky, even if you’re a guy! Back in London, I had the same one for about 4 years and then when I arrived over here, I had to go through the process of finding a new one. First world problem there! I’m not sure about you, but I’ve always associated barbers with ageing, sweaty guys, talking about the weather, but I guess I must just be getting old(or just believe in stereotypes). Either way, Grand Royal Barbers definitely doesn’t fulfil my outdated view, instead it offers the old school look with new school stylists! They still have the barber chairs, but that’s where the similarities with barbers of the bygone era end. Same could be said too for the prices, with a wash and cut setting you back $ 48(and if they ask you if you want your beard trimmed during the cut, they’re not just being polite, it’ll cost you another $ 15). However, no hair cut in the Eastern Suburbs seems to be cheap and each time I’ve been here, I’ve been more than happy with my new do! It can tend to get busy, so best to book ahead, just to be sure!
