Oh shit. I used to come here from the ages of 18 to 20⁄21. This was the place to go on a Thursday night if you had Friday off work/Uni. They have some good shows on here as well, both local and international acts. If you’re within the age bracket and like punk(or punk-ish) music, corral some friends up and go here.

Hot Damn! would never have been my first preference for places to go on a night out, but I guess when you’re not expecting much, you have the best night! If you’re looking for a break from monotony of the same places and the same people then Hot Damn is worth consideration. It may not meet the average person’s hygiene expectation but it has great music, cheap drinks and a buzzing atmosphere. Thursdays are Hot Damn’s token nights so if you’ve got work off on a friday or really couldn’t care less, then check it out.

I have zero piercings, zero tattoos, and I occasionally listen to country music. I’m a pretty clean-cut kid and I have a haircut which actually has a part. I could be an extra in The Right Stuff, although my lack of comb ownership and part Italianness might be a disadvantage. Were Italian dudes allowed in space back then? All of which is to say that I am probably not in the core demographic for Hot Damn! Despite this, I have a real soft spot for the Q Bar Thursday night regular. The crowds are unpretentious, the venue intimate, and it’s the only place where I have seen tiny girls barrel through people on some kind of Terminator 2 mission to the bathroom or the bar. It’s like they can’t stop moving or a bomb will detonate. It’s a fun night, but expect to get hit with a couple of spilt drinks or two.

Located just a short walk up Oxford Street from Museum Station, Q-Bar is the place to be on a Thursday night. Hot Damn! is a night held at QBar each week that has grown considerably over the last few years. It started out as catering to a niche ‘alternative’ market, and has since gone more ‘mainstream’. The typical clientele at this club are barely-legal teens and slightly-older-than-teens, who make no secret of wanting to get black-out drunk and dance until their limbs give out. Their motto, «Cheap drinks, and even cheaper kids» is indicative of the type of customers they wish to attract; young, crazy people who have no qualms about drinking and casual hook-ups. And it works. If you want a fun, meaningless night, that you probably won’t remember the next day, with loud, grungecore music early on, and popular beats provided by DJ’s later in the night, this is the club to rock up at. Of course, it helps if you have numerous facial piercings and visible tattoos. The straight-laced will probably not feel too at-home in this charmingly dingy hole in the wall.
