When I heard that the chef Tomislav Martinovic worked with Heston Blumenthal at the Fat Duck in London, I was expecting something a bit quirky. And he delivers straight from the get-go with the rice cracker starters. What you get on the table is a crispy mound of goodness in either salt & vinegar or sour cream & chives. Certainly different from table bread! Then it starts. One of the signature dishes is the prawn risotto and its awesome. As is the scotch fillet main that I had with bone marrow and potato mash. Then come the desserts, with both the apple crumble and the milk chocolate cream cake being an incredible finish. But the big surprise for me was the discovery of the best bottle of red that I have ever tasted. Its a Tuscan wine called Isole e Olena ‘Chianti Classico’, originating from Sangiovese, Tuscany, Italy, vintage 2007. It is amazing and I’ve been trying to find a bottle of this ever since. If you ever find this wine please let me know where :) Overall its a great restaurant and you can get up close and personal to the Coke sign at Kings Cross on the huge balcony. Definitely recommend.
