blah! save your money, not real authentic! I would recommend other places in the area for food.

If your so hungry you could eat a horse. Una’s is the place to come!(No, horse is not on the menu). The meals are massive, my favourite is the Veal Jägar Schnitzel(Chicken is available). It comes with a creamy mushroom sauce and one & a half massive schnitzels on most nights. The best nights to go are Sunday & Monday you get two massive schnitzels(usually)! The meal also comes with a cabbage salad and a potato Rösti(potato fritter). Don’t worry if you can’t fit it all in, you can take it home. If your game, try the Deep Fried Camembert & the Crummed Mushrooms for the entré. All in all the menu has a great selection of Austrian/German cuisine. Oh and don’t forget the beer. This place has been around for years and its aways busy. Just remember to bring cash and a big appetite!

The perfect hangover cure!!! Schnitzels the size of your head drowned in jäger sauce. Pork knuckles the size of a baby and a plethora of different types of beers. The service is rather slap happy but that doesn’t bother me at all. The food never takes very long and it’s so filling. My last attempt at the chicken jäger schnitzel was so dismal I was very disappointed in myself. However was rather happy later that day as I took it home and it was super tasty. If you’re looking for a meaty feast that’s fast and delicious Una is your lady!

I never used to be a fan of Unas at Darlinghurst, I tried it years ago and to be honest, it was really bad, and they also didn’t have pork schnitzel on the menu. I’m sorry but if you are a German restaurant serving chicken schnitzel but not pork, then in my opinion it isn’t a real German restaurant. Last year(2014) my German friends that live in Darlinghurst were raving about it. I kept saying they were crazy, anyway long story short, they convinced my wife and I to join them there for dinner, and I must say it was just about perfect. I still think Tommys(Glebe) and the Austrian schnitzel Haus(Neutral bay) have the best schnitzels, Unas in Darlinghurst has come out of nowhere into a number 2 spot in Sydney. I do consider myself a German/Austrian/Czech food expert having lived there for a few years and experiencing the foods first hand. Once Unas started making pork schnitzels that was the beginning of the«new Unas golden period». Their sides, mains and desserts are mostly traditional German style. I’m still not sure how as the older waitresses and I’m assuming some sort of owner is a very okka/Australian/almost bogan who you wouldn’t expect to be producing such authentic German meals. Kudos to Unas and please keep up the good work and don’t drop the pork schnitzels.

After an unexpected Sunday sesh with your mates, and in preparation for more beverage consuming; nothing beats a schnitzel that’s as big as your plate and a potato rosti that you want to savour until the last bite. Una’s at Darlinghurst can offer you all that wrapped in a package taking the guise of a very warm, homely, restaurant crossed with a German café. The menu is brief, but full of mouthwatering options. You won’t make it past any of the schnitzels though. Each option as delicious as the last, you’ll be spoilt for choice. I had the Vienna Schnitzel with gravy, and it was done to a turn. Crispy, tender, and just plain delicious. Slathered in gravy and mixed with the rosti I cut up, I was in heaven. Don’t be put off by the maître d’, he comes across as gruff and foreboding; but he’ll make you as comfortable as possible, and he’ll let you sit wherever you want [providing that table’s free]. I went on a Sunday evening around 6:30, and it was already pretty full; so it’s a good idea to call ahead. Or better yet, get a takeaway! If I wasn’t already merrier than usual when I rocked up, I would’ve thrown myself right in to the atmosphere and had a glass of the house cider. I recommend that you do, should you make the good choice to pay Una’s a visit. Guten Appetit!

Love love love this joint! Tonight is my 1000th visit and a sydney ritual every time i’m in town. Order the Jäger schintzel — chicken of course… waitresses all German and always authentic and friendly. No complaints from this Unilocaler…

Being the world’s biggest Schnitzel fan I can only recommend Una’s! Great food, excellent beers. Really enjoyed the Chicken Schnitzel and ordered mushroom sauce extra. Wow. Very tasty. Put the phone down now and go buy a Schnitzel!

Rude rude rude. Went to use restroom and manager physically grabbed my backpack and pulled me back as I was going up the stairs and demanded to know what I was doing. I told her going to rest room then she stormed off and said maybe next time you should ask. Little did she know I was likely getting a coffee there. Regardless, unacceptable. Perhaps this is why the place was empty…

Yum!!! Yumm!!! So yum! My mouth waters when I am here. The food is really well priced and the serves are massive. The jäger schnitzel is amazing. You will enter into a food coma after eating it. Things that annoy me about coming here, they will offer you a pretzel that you pay $ 4 for but won’t tell you that you need to pay for it. Also Sunday surcharge, nothing on menu regarding this and indoor seating isn’t good as there is no air con. Again so yummy!!!

The place to go if you’re after a hearty schnitzel! Huge schnitzel, plenty of gravy, tasty rosti & fresh cabbage salad. Service was basic & the place has an old school vibe but no complaints here would return for sure!

«Just like nanna’s place». I say this about 14 times before the entrée, and several times more during the main. Old wooden book cases are stacked three deep with steins, and old paintings of sprawling hills adorn the walls. It takes me back to nanna’s house, where assorted trinkets from across the world weigh down the walls. Una’s is a hearty European hide-away in the throngs of inner-city Sydney. The menu boasts a variety of extremely heavy dishes that will surely leave you feeling satisfied. Large portion sizes are brilliant, but sometimes begs the question: quantity or quality. The sauerkraut is good, not great. The spinach hearty and filling, but not deliciously moreish. I can’t speak to the meat menu, but the vegetarian offerings are just better than eating my own cooking. If European beer you want, then European beer you shall receive. Imported beers, Austrian wines and a plethora of schnapps are all eagerly delivered. The décor smacks of Gastfreundschaft; you take a big step back in time to join the hill people of middle-Scandinavia, with equal measures of kitsch and camp. Service levels were slightly lower than expected on multiple visits, despite the restaurant being almost empty. Though quick and efficient, they didn’t leave me feeling the liebe. A great little piece of Europe for anybody feeling homesick or adventurous, and a Darlinghurst icon, Una’s Restaurant is a hospitable sanctuary from the busy city streets.

Terrible service. Waitresses clearly hating their jobs and had bad attitudes. I know it’s a crap job but at least pretend to care. Breakfast was disappointing tho the potatoe cake was great.

If you want to indulge in a good hearty meal — never go past Una’s! I’ve been to the other schnitzel /German houses and this wins hands down. Portions are ample in size and served quite quickly(so take your time in ordering if you want breaks between your sets). I recommend the Fried Camembert, Jaeger Schnitzel and Pork Knuckle. You will not leave this place hungry! A great place to go with friends, family or partners. Dinner time is fairly busy and they don’t take bookings so you may be waiting up to 20 minutes. However, there is a small bar upstairs where you can enjoy a drink whilst you wait for your table.

Once in a while all you want for dinner is a schnitzel. Una’s on Victoria Rd is my place to go to for my schnitzel fix. I prefer it to Bavarian Beer Café and Lowenbrau, as it never disappoints. Una’s can become quite busy in the evening so get here early, otherwise you can wait upstairs in the bar which serves a range of German beers. Once you get a table, you gotta order the deep fried camembert as a starter. Its a heart attack waiting to happen but it is so good and so worth the extra gym session. I usually share this with 2 – 3 friends as its pretty heavy. For my main I would order either a chicken or Jaegar schnitzel(essentially a Vienna/veal schnitzel with mushroom sauce), and I dare you to try and finish it. Its huge! For dessert there is no choice in my mind, gotta get the apple strudel. Delish! So if you love your schnitzel, make your way to Una’s quick smart!

Dear fellow pescetarians If you are invited to Una’s for a birthday party, may i suggest you eat before hand as this eatery is not designed for you. Una’s is designed for meat eaters… so when perusing the menu you’ll find very little that will be suitable for you… that said, they do try… so if you have to join the group here’s whats on offer: Fettuccine Provencale — Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Onions, Herbs 14.90 Vegetable Strudel with Portuguese sauce and Rösti 17.90 Fresh Salmon Fillet on Salad with Rösti 21.90 If none of these appeal. that perhaps you should try avoid a visit here… I’ve been to Una’s once for breakfast and it wasn’t bad — their Vegetarian Breakfast — Mushrooms, Eggs, Rösti, Toast and Tomatoes was quite substantial… and their oily Rosti is super yum… a great place to soak up your big Saturday night… Not my first choice — but my friends seem to rate it…

Every now and then, you may have the urge to give the 2 finger salute to the Atkins diet, and going to a German restaurant is usually a pretty efficient way of doing that! To be exact, Una’s is a German-Austrian-Swiss restaurant but basically, it’s what you’d expect from German food. Now, some people like prompt service, however on this occasion, the prompt service bordered on rude. I know the German’s are known for efficiency but you’d at least expect to be able to finish your starter before they brought your main course! Our starters of deepfried camembert($ 8.90) and pea and ham soup($ 7.50) were tasty, but we’d barely had time to swallow it before they were whisked away and replaced by our hefty mains. My pork knuckle with rosti and sauerkraut($ 20.90) was ok but didn’t blow me away, which was a shame because I’d been told it was a winner, but the pork turned out to be overly dry and the crackling was below par(you have to get that bit right at least!). The chicken schnitzel($ 17.90), although big, wasn’t anything particularly special. And much like the first course, they couldn’t seem to get us out the door quick enough! It wasn’t even that busy!

The absolute prerequisite here is that you like — hopefully love — chicken schnitzel. It’s not going to help you or your friends if you’re looking for fries, fish, steak, sandwiches, pasta, kebabs, sushi. Get out. Just get out. You’re the wrong kind of ilk for this place. These guys and gals want chicken schnitzel aficionados. And it’s enough even if you pretend to like it. I have been here twice. Once on a date and once with my parents and both of those times were largely memorable for the outsized and finger-lickin’ yummy fried foods. The chicken schnitzel is only ever going to be the star here so don’t feel the need to dress up for the occasion(and please, certainly not in any national costume). The schnitzel doesn’t look anything different than what you’ve seen before bar the size — they’re big. And they don’t come alone. Along with the chicken(you can get veal schnitzel instead if you really want to) you get rosti — a hash-browny potato dish — and cabbage salad. The chicken schnitzel and rosti are exactly the kind of food you’re always looking to eat but usually don’t do because perhaps you have some personal pride or a food controller in the form of a husband or wife. It’s a very casual atmosphere which is also part of the appeal(and not particularly surprising when you factor in the host suburb, Darlinghurst, and the lowbrow-ness of the nearby area). If there are no spare tables when you arrive do as a German/Austrian/Swiss national would do and go upstairs for a drink while you wait for your name to be called.

Una’s is German cuisine, renowned for their huge servings. Una’s isn’t a fine dining experience(if you can’t tell from the waiter’s lederhosen), but it is hearty food that will leave you feeling satisfied. The Jaeger Schnitzel is a favourite($ 20) which is a massive veal or chicken schnitzel served with mushroom sauce, potato rosti and a side of cabbage. If you are on the smaller side, you could share this meal between two people. Recently Una’s has started a home delivery service(yes all you hungover people, this is the best news you have heard all day!). They have partnered with Suppertime who will deliver you a Jäger Schnizel for an extra $ 8.50.
