Wow — what a find! Thanks Unilocal! The Central looks like your average Aussie pub from the outside, but the food on offer is definitely a few notches above. The uniquely presented menu is extensive without being over-ambitious, and the wine list has decent local representation. We ordered the lamb shoulder(for 2), and it didn’t disappoint. Crispy on the outside, and fall-apart melt-in-your mouth tender on the inside. The accompanying mashed potatoes must have been at least 50% butter! A word of warning: the portions are massive. We had enough leftover for dinner the following evening, and one of our dining companions ordered the pork belly starter as a main and struggled to finish it. Not a complaint — just make sure you come hungry! Unfortunately, we didn’t have room for the desserts, which looked fantastic. A great spot to stop for dinner before or after the ferry.

Outside the windows, the pristine wonder of Devonport city glistens in the wake of a delicious pint of mid-strength ale I had to endure for a momentary reprieve from the knowledge that I still lived here. Something always brings us back; whether it be the emphatic cold sweats we wake to in the morning, the delightful McDonalds family restaurant in the heart of the CBD or this time-trodden testament to human suffering: the central. Upon walking in through the door, i found myself sprawled on the floor as i tripped on a very inconveniently placed intoxicated person. This small setback aside, i brushed myself off and continued onto the bar; determined not to let this minor quibble detract from the intense swash-buckling i had planned for the evening. The lady behind the bar was attractive, thankfully, as the bar was not. She was also partially drunk but this only added to her charm. The beer i bought was cold, this is a great plus towards this great tavern. It was actually really great. It was carbonated which was divine and great too. I spent some time on the dance floor but unfortunately, i am a bipedal mammal and require more room than a cage hen’s box to dance in. Thank god for the smoking area. Entering the smoking area, i was beside myself with anticipation for the crisp flavours Peter Jackson had in store for me. His cigarettes are precious to me… I digress. I sat and sparked up, only to be thwarted dead in my tracks by not only The Avengers, but a host of DC comic characters all lost and confused but clearly out for blood. After fleeing the establishment flailing my arms like a deranged elf, i found myself in reflection. I was going to give The Central only a few stars but after considerable thought, i have concluded the Meth-amphetamine i sprinkled on my corn flakes could have effected my critiquing process. 5 Stars

Good quality food, great service. Just a few minutes drive from spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal. Kiss activities provided and great value big kid meals

This review may be overexcited due to the nature of the town of Devonport but this is truly the nicest pub I went to whilst I was in was Tasmania. Excellent bar prices and friendly staff(cliché but true), very fun and unique décor and keeps the Aussie pub feel without going too yuppie. I highly recommend this place if you have spirit of tasmania time to kill or around here touring Cradle Mountain area.
