The Wine Store’s Wonderful Elite Event!

It was a long day at work and a cold windy night but my friend and I braved the winter wildness to head out to Freo for the Wine Stores Unilocal Elite event. Crispy empanadas and other delicious nibbles were served but alas none were gluten free! Despite being a free event, the lovely owners were more than obliging and got the kitchen to whip up a couple of alternative morsels to keep me fed. We enjoyed ourselves so much we stayed on and order more nibbles from their menu.
I will most definitely be heading back!

WOW! Not a whole lot more to be said than that really. Matt and Kitty are both so lovely and passionate about their work, it is really inspiring. I enjoy going places knowing the heart and soul being put into everything there.
After champagne and croquettes (these were so creamy and delicious) upstairs we moved down into the wine cellar. The Argentinian malbac we sampled in the cellar was so excellent and my boyfriend has been dreaming of heading back for another glass ever since.

Lovely, lovely, lovely!
You can’t really curse Winter when a setting such as this, rugs you up like a cushy down feather dooner and cradles you into sweet dreams. The Wine Store is a charming spot out in East Freo and anyone victim of North of the River inertia, should clock up some miles for this neck of the woods. The cellar bellow would also be fab if you’re planning a special event, for something a little intimate and different.
We drank wine. We laughed. We drank more delicious wine and declared our love for a particular bottle of Malbec.
Aside from all the chirpy Unilocalers, the highlight of the night for me, was the Casa Marguey Malbec. Peppery, smooth and just delicious! And I’m not even a red fan. I’d go again for the Malbec alone. Did I mention that Malbec? #casamarguey
My only disappointment for the night was that I drank too much Malbec and thus, forgot to purchase a bottle of said Malbec on leaving.

Croquettes and Empanadas are two of my biggest weaknesses, and I was very exited that we got to sample them as part of the event. The food was and wine were both delicious and the venue has a great atmospher. This is particularly true of the downstairs cellar which is a welcoming and cozy space. Many thanks to Laura, Kitty and Rob for planning such a wonderful event, I felt very lucky to be invited.

Hats off to Kitty and Matt for the hosts that boasted the most! So lovely, welcoming and passionate about their produce and little gem of a bar/​café.
Absolutely felt like an ‘elite’ event being invited into the dimly lit cellar — a very exclusive and cosy feeling! The seating, lighting and sound all worked extremely well to create an intimate atmosphere, encouraging healthy banter with a smooth Malbec to match. I can imagine a very successful dinner function being hosted on the long table down there!
The menu (ranging over breakfast, lunch and dinner) looks exciting, and definitely a place I am looking to go back to and try out — just have to decide which meal!
Thank you so much for inviting me! It was a great initiation into the Unilocaling events, and I look forward to using all my goodies (socks, lipbalm, cards).

I did feel like my secret little wine bar was becoming less of a secret with an Elite event being held here.
Loved meeting old and new faces at this event. I’m never really too sure how people interpret my reviews of places and it was a relief I hadn’t initiated a face off on places. Phew!
Even though I’ve been to The Wine Store a number of times, I hadn’t ventured downstairs. It’s usually midweek and there’s plenty of room at ground floor or busy at weekends I forget there’s a downstairs area. Not anymore.
Radek is right. It does have an amazing secluded romantic atmosphere. Soft lighting and cosy corners with tables in amongst a wine cellar is just perfect for small groups and couples. Definitely checking this area out the next time I drop in on the weekend.

What a lovely Unilocal event. The Wine Store is a charming place. They offer a formidable range of delicious wines, as well as great food. The actual venue is cool, but unpretentious. If you like your wine, and are looking for a relaxed evening with a few bevvys and some food, this would be a great spot. This is the kind of place I would like to have around the corner from my house. It was a cold night, but it was deliciously cosy inside.
The owners are so lovely too, and they really know their wines.
They recently added Breakfast to their offerings too.
I hope to be back soon to try some more of their wines, and perhaps even take home a bottle that I liked from their adjacent wine shop.

Over 1200 wine choices!
Well I finally broke my elite event cherry last night with Susan and all I can say is … I should have come to the earlier ones! The wine store is a very classy institution that from my understanding used to predominantly be a bottle shop stocking lots of wine that has now branched out into a restaurant/​bar that serves breakfast lunch and dinner also.
There was plenty of familiar and new faces alike. A flute of champagne on arrival helped everyone ease into the experience and brave talking to new faces. Lots of eager conversation was abound whilst finger food was being distributed by the Wine Store’s friendly staff. I personally chased up Mags. L to thank her for some of her reviews and shared secret spots. A shout out to her partner David who has bravely entered the Unilocal fold in the last month.
After a fair bit of socializing near the top of the staircase and in the sectioned off upstairs area (and grabbing a pair of Unilocal socks for the winter cold) we were all welcomed down into the cellar. WOW! Great vibe down there and an awesome setting for a romantic dinner I would have to say. We were given a glass of Malbec from Argentina upon entering the cellar and a serving of Empanadas to go with it. Plenty of water was available too.
Overall a great event (Good work Laura!) and a pretty decent venue from the looks. I haven’t officially dined or had a drink here yet, but now there is no doubt I will return for both.
